Legacy African History tells the stories of Africa's kingdoms, empires and peoples, from ancient Kush and Aksum to the age of colonization and the resistance against it.
Each documentary is researched from the work of historians and archaeologists and from primary sources such as travelers' accounts, royal letters and oral traditions. Sources are listed in every video description. I create custom maps and visuals to show how these societies lived, traded, governed and believed, and I point out where historians still disagree.
The goal is simple: to share Africa's history accurately and in depth, beyond the myths and stereotypes that still surround it.

Egypt never called itself Egypt. In this documentary, we uncover the original names of North Africa: Kemet, Kush, the Libu, Carthage and the Afri, Numidia, Mauretania, Morocco and the Amazigh, and find out where the word "Africa" came from.
The word “Egypt” came from Greek traders who took it from a single temple in Memphis, Hut-ka-Ptah. The Egyptians called their land Kemet, the Black Land. Sudan was named for the skin color of its people, but behind that name stands the Kingdom of Kush, whose Black Pharaohs ruled Egypt and whose Queen Amanirenas buried the head of Emperor Augustus beneath a temple’s steps. Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco each carry a name with a hidden history. The word “Africa” itself came from Rome, after it destroyed Carthage.
This is the story of who named North Africa, and of the names its people used first.

📜 AFRICA'S LEADERS WARNED EUROPE. WHY DID NO ONE LISTEN?
In 1526, an African king wrote a desperate letter to the king of Portugal.
He had welcomed the Portuguese into his kingdom. He believed they were allies. But now, his own people were being seized and taken away on ships.
He asked Portugal to stop. Portugal kept trading.
This was not the only warning Europe ignored.
From the letters of King Afonso I of Kongo to the resistance of Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia, African leaders tried to defend their people, their lands, and their independence.
Yet, in 1884, European powers met in Berlin to establish rules for dividing African territory—with no African state represented.
🔥 How did this happen? Who resisted? And what did African leaders write when they realized what was coming?
