Beautiful cow yellowfin tuna landed off the Royal Polaris, with legendary owner-operator Bill Poole leading the charge. Fishing the remote Revillagigedo Islands in the late ‘70s was an adventure only the boldest anglers dared take on, and this fish is proof of the rewards that awaited those who made the journey. Fisherman’s Landing, San Diego where the giants of the Pacific made their mark. Incredible Long Range Sportfishing history. #royalpolaris #longrangesportfishing #fishinghistory

Capt. Bill Poole’s beautiful 95-foot Cape Polaris was built in the Dittmar-Donaldson shipyard in Costa Mesa.

She was rechristened as the Searcher. In her day she was considered to be the Cadillac of sportfishers. She’s one of my personal, all time favorite boats. Love fishing with Art and nothing puts me to sleep faster than listening to her creak while underway. There’s nothing like the soul of a well built wooden boat. #searchersportfishing #sportfishinghistory

Extremely rare shot of the boat Hurricane. Circa 1954.

The Hurricane out of Pierpoint Landing wasn’t just known for its military-grade speed but it’s also immortalized for landing what’s believed to be the first-ever broadbill swordfish caught on film from a sportboat with Skipper Charlie Davis at the helm! #PierpointLanding #WestCoastFishing #SportfishingHistory
