UAE plans another $25bn investment in India.

The UAE plans to invest another $25bn in India soon, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said after a bilateral investment task force meeting held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The statement followed the 14th India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments meeting, which was co-chaired by Goyal and Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, managing director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

According to Indian government-owned broadcaster DD India, the discussions focused on using the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to expand investment and reinforce supply chains.

Goyal said the UAE has already invested about $25bn in India, making it the seventh-largest source of foreign direct investment.

He said the two countries are targeting eventual UAE investment of $100bn and plan to double bilateral trade to $200bn by 2032.

Miami-Dade sues for $750 million damages in incinerator blaze.

Miami-Dade County on Monday sued for more than $750 million damages stemming from the February 2023 fire that destroyed the county’s Resource Recovery Facility in Doral, for which the county has yet to find a replacement site or plant at a cost estimated to exceed $3 billion.

The lawsuit against Reworld Dade LLC and its parent Reworld Holding Corp. alleges Reworld, which got about $60 million a year to operate and maintain the incinerator plant, failed to address known fire safety deficiencies despite years of documented warnings.

The suit says the company failed to properly maintain critical fire-protection systems and shut-off control valves or water pumps serving multiple sprinkler systems, allowing a small fire to spread and ultimately destroy much of the plant.

The four-decade-old, 160-acre plant was one of the largest waste-to-energy plants in the nation. It processed nearly 3,000 tons of waste daily, generating up to 77 megawatts of electric power.

Somali pirates killed oil tanker crew before rescue.

Five crew members of an oil tanker seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia were killed before local security forces retook the vessel, a senior regional official has told the BBC.

Puntland Deputy Information Minister Bile Qabowsade said the five were killed by pirates before regional forces boarded MT Hoarner 25.

He said the dead included three Pakistani nationals, one Indian and one national of Myanmar. Four other crew members were injured, including three Pakistanis and one Indian.

The tanker, which was carrying about 18,500 barrels of oil destined for the Somali capital, Mogadishu, was seized in April by six armed men while sailing off the coast of Somalia.

Sixteen suspected pirates have been arrested, while others escaped and were being pursued, officials said.

Qabowsade rejected suggestions that forces from Puntland, a semi-autonomous region of Somalia, had helped some of the pirates escape. The authorities have not given further details how the five crew members were killed or how the pirates took control of the vessel.

The hijacked tanker was anchored near the Somali coast between the fishing towns of Xaafun and Bander Beyla.

Trump announces plans for largest steel plant in U.S. history to be built in Iowa.

President Trump on Monday announced that the company Mesabi Metallics will build a $15 billion steel plant in Iowa over the coming years, in what would be the largest of its kind in U.S. history.

"There's a company known as Mesabi," the president said in the Oval Office. "And they're going to make a big investment in a place called Iowa. I love Iowa. I won Iowa every time. Today, we're thrilled to announce that Mesabi Metallics will be building the largest steel plant in American history in the great state of Iowa."

The president and the Minnesota-based Mesabi Metallics unveiled the company's plans for what the White House is calling a mega steel plant, alongside Mesabi executives and Iowa officials. The announcement comes as several Iowa Republicans face competitive elections in the November midterms, including the party's candidates for Senate and governor.

Although Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Monday the steel plant won't receive direct federal support, he acknowledged that the government-run Export-Import Bank financed Mesabi's iron ore plant in Minnesota, which will provide the raw materials essential to making steel.

Once it's up and running in 2030, the plant is expected to produce 7.5 million or more tons of steel per year. A White House official said the plant is expected to create 1,750 permanent jobs in Iowa.
