MYSTERIOUS RIJIYAR NAGWAMATSE: A HISTORIC WATER SOURCE IN NIGER STATE
**By Sunny Mars, Reporting for Guddoers Media**
**KONTAGORA, NIGER STATE** Hidden within the historic town of Kontagora in Niger State lies the renowned **Rijiyar Nagwamatse**, an ancient water source that has fascinated residents, researchers, and visitors for generations. Deeply connected to the history of the Kontagora Emirate, the site is regarded as one of the state's most remarkable cultural and historical landmarks.
According to local tradition, the well is linked to **Umaru Nagwamatse**, the founder of the Kontagora Emirate. Oral accounts passed down through generations tell of a time when the emir sought water to perform ablution and prayers during one of his journeys. Through what many believe was divine intervention, water emerged from the ground at that very location, creating a source that continues to exist to this day.
Today, Rijiyar Nagwamatse remains a significant symbol of the emirate's heritage. The well is protected within a specially constructed enclosure, preserving both the water source and the large tree roots that surround it. These roots, intertwined with the structure of the well, contribute to its unique appearance and add to the mystery that has long captivated visitors.
Many who visit the site are amazed by the continuous presence of water throughout the year, despite changing weather conditions. The well has become an important destination for those interested in history, culture, and the traditional stories that shape the identity of the Kontagora people.
Recent preservation and development efforts have further enhanced the site. Improvements supported by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi have helped maintain the landmark and improve accessibility for visitors. The entrance gate and surrounding facilities reflect a growing commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the community for future generations.
Residents describe Rijiyar Nagwamatse as more than just a water source. For many, it is a symbol of their history, identity, and enduring traditions. It serves as a reminder of the legacy of Umaru Nagwamatse and the values that continue to unite the people of Kontagora.
As cultural tourism continues to gain momentum across Nigeria, Rijiyar Nagwamatse stands as one of Niger State's treasured heritage sites, attracting visitors eager to learn about its history, legends, and significance to the local community.

😂 THE HONORABLE AND THE MISSING “S”
An honorable man who once represented Enugu during an interhouse sports competition years ago was invited to speak at an event.
When the MC handed him the microphone, he confidently began his speech and kept saying “interhouse sport” instead of “interhouse sports.”
Meanwhile, his wife was sitting in the audience listening very carefully. After he finished speaking, she quietly called him aside and whispered into his ear:
It is interhouse sports, not interhouse sport.
The honorable man quickly called the MC back and said:
MC, please help me put ‘S’ at the back of my interhouse sport!
