Had a ton of fun at Comic-Con! I went as Ada Wong and Mike as Tetsu from Dairies of a Househusband!

AND so many of you encouraged me to shop haha- so I got a Berserker Armour tshirt, a Nostromo and Wey-Yu patch (not sure where to put these yet), and an Umbrella Corp. patch.

Tell me what you thought of the movie?

For me, in a nutshell, I loved it all until the ending, where I literally threw my hands up in the air and exclaimed “that’s it?!”. It didn’t give me the payoff I wished for Brian’s misery. HOWEVER, now I’m actually motivated to rewatch Barbarian and Weapons to compare. Still, I would rewatch this movie over and over 🫶

It's RE opening weekend and we're all hyped. This is what I expect going into the movie tomorrow:

1) A Cregger movie I'll WANT TO re-watch. IMO Cregger is one of the best horror directors out there. His movies are brutal, unpredictable, and tap into archetypal horrific ideas, though sprinkled with comic relief (cue Abrams or Long) ... However, for a scaredy-cat like me, I still don't want to re-experience Barbarian or Weapons- they simply broke my heart and disturbed me too much. BUT, I expect Resident Evil to be different. Despite Cregger's divisive departure from the RE movie formula, I wager this will still feel like an RE universe movie before a horror movie. And for this reason, I will want to return and re-watch again and again. As well, Cregger directed Abrams in Weapons to portray pure survival instinct + comic relief + complete sincerity. This is an underdog I can root for, and feel safe behind.

2) I will not leave the theater feeling like Cregger disrespected or beterayed the RE franchise. Yes, I think the initial trailer released too early because RE fans were finishing up Resident Evil Requiem and starving for more RE. And in our minds, it was RE universe Leon, Claire, Umbrella because that's what we had been living and breathing for the past two months. So we were a bit miffed, but the dust has settled now and we're hungry for RE again and thrilled it's being served by Cregger. In fact, I expect MULTIPLE blink-and-you-miss-it fanservice Easter Eggs only DIE HARD RE fans will clock.

3) Finally, I expect this to the first RE movie that will GENUINELY SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME. The OG RE comes close, but I think more so due to claustrophobia of the underground Umbrella base, uncanny valley creepiness from old-tech digital effects, and the fact that I was a middle schooler when I first watched it. Cregger is an atmospheric horror expert, and he writes an unpredictable narrative 10/10, so I'm expecting some sweaty palms tomorrow.

Let me know your thoughts. In your heart of hearts, what do you expect to feel or not feel going into Resident Evil? What will disappoint you? What will impress you? What is your dream wish-list?

PS: Cregger holds his cards right up to his chest, so I'm holding out hope there will be a Leon Kennedy cameo to surprise the fans :D
