A Nomad can choose a direction, prepare for the journey, and have a destination in mind—but that doesn't mean everything along the way will happen as expected.

Sometimes the unexpected creates inconvenience. Other times, it reveals an opportunity that couldn't have been planned for.

There is value in having a plan, but there is also value in remaining flexible enough to recognize when something deserves our attention. The challenge is learning the difference between an opportunity and a distraction.

Perhaps that's part of living as a Nomad: moving forward with purpose without becoming so committed to the path that we stop noticing what exists beyond it.

There’s an interesting difference between having less and needing less.

Having less can feel restrictive when the things we give up still feel important. But needing less can feel completely different. Every time we decide something is no longer necessary, there’s one less thing demanding our space, time, or attention.

That may be one of the quieter lessons of the Nomad lifestyle.

Simplicity isn’t necessarily about seeing how little we can survive with. It’s about figuring out what actually adds something worthwhile to our lives. Once we know that, the things that don’t matter become much easier to leave behind.

Maybe freedom isn’t always about gaining more choices. Sometimes it comes from needing fewer things in the first place.

A Nomad can't expect the world to cooperate with the plan.

Conditions change. Opportunities disappear. Obstacles appear where we never expected them.

We don't always get to choose what changes around us, but we do get to decide what we do next.

Adapting doesn't require giving up on where we're trying to go. Sometimes it simply means accepting that the route we imagined isn't the route we're going to take.

There's a certain freedom in that.

Once we stop believing there is only one correct path forward, setbacks become problems to solve instead of reasons to stop.

🚀 The Nasari Interstellar Alliance has officially been formed!

The new Cosmos Update has given us the ability to take control of Space Stations and form Galactic Alliances... so naturally, I had to do both. 😁

My first Space Station is under new management, and the Nasari Interstellar Alliance is officially up and running!

Right now our mighty interstellar empire consists of...

1 member. 😂

Hey, you have to start somewhere.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this new system goes and what we can build together as the Alliance grows.

Preparing for Another Blood Moon

Jacob had been through this twice now.

By the third Blood Moon, there wasn't much mystery left about what was coming.

That didn't make preparing for it any less important.

Before becoming a park ranger, Jacob had learned to treat preparation as part of the job. Before heading into the backcountry, you checked your gear. If bad weather was coming, you didn't wait until it arrived to find out what you had forgotten.

The Blood Moon wasn't much different.

Check the weapons.

Count the ammunition.

Make sure anything damaged gets repaired.

Look over the defenses while there's still daylight to fix something.

The first Blood Moon had been something Jacob could only prepare for based on what little he understood.

By the third, he had experience.

He knew what the night sounded like.

He knew how quickly things could get out of control.

And he knew that once the sky turned red, whatever he had forgotten was probably going to stay forgotten until morning.

Three weeks wasn't enough time to make this life feel normal.

But it was enough time to develop a routine.

And for Jacob, preparation had always been easier when there was a routine to follow.

There's something interesting about patience.

We often think of it as doing nothing—simply waiting for something to happen. But a Nomad can't afford to stand still waiting for the world to cooperate.

You keep moving. You keep searching. You work with what you have today while leaving room for what you hope to find tomorrow.

That's a different kind of patience.

It isn't passive. It's the willingness to continue the journey without knowing exactly when you'll reach what you're looking for.

And maybe that's what makes finally finding it so rewarding.

We often imagine home as a place with an address. Somewhere we leave in the morning and eventually return to.

But perhaps home doesn't have to be quite so permanent.

For a Nomad, home can become something we carry rather than somewhere we stay. It can exist in familiar belongings, daily routines, memories, or simply the comfort of knowing we have what we need wherever the journey takes us.

The scenery outside may change tomorrow, and again the day after that, but the things that make somewhere feel like our own can travel with us.

Maybe that's what makes a home truly ours. Not the ground beneath it, but the pieces of ourselves we've placed within it.

📖 JACOB'S JOURNAL #20

Sunday BBQ

The man who taught Jacob to smoke ribs lived a couple houses down.

He wasn't a professional cook. He was just the guy in the neighborhood who somehow always knew when the ribs were ready.

The first few times Jacob helped him, he kept wanting to check the smoker.

His neighbor would tell him to leave the lid closed.

Every time you open it, he'd say, you're just making dinner take longer.

Eventually Jacob learned.

Low heat. Plenty of time. Don't keep messing with it.

After a while, Jacob started bringing his own rack of ribs over. They'd season them differently and argue about whose were better, although somehow there were never many leftovers from either one.

But what Jacob remembered most wasn't learning how to use the smoker.

It was everything happening around it.

People sitting in lawn chairs. Kids running between yards. Somebody showing up with another plate of food even though there was already too much.

Nobody thought of it as building a community.

They were just neighbors spending a Sunday afternoon together.

Sometimes that's all it takes.

There's something about seeing a new horizon that reminds us how much of the world we've yet to experience.

We can't know beforehand which places will matter to us. Some may become unforgettable, while others are simply part of the road that carried us somewhere else. But every time we venture beyond what's familiar, we give ourselves the opportunity to discover another story.

For a Nomad, those stories become part of what we carry.

Not every journey needs a remarkable destination. Sometimes a conversation, an unexpected moment, or simply seeing somewhere we've never seen before is enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Perhaps that's why the horizon keeps calling. There's always the possibility that something beyond it will become a story we'll remember years from now.
