How do you relax?
Me? I stand in meditation.

For so long I didn’t appreciate the value of relaxing.
In a world of hustle, striving, achieving, getting, and doing it felt as though I’d better keep up, or else.

Turns out all of that made me very sick. I had no idea that relaxing was what would finally begin setting me free. It seemed like the very opposite of what was required. But it was, and is, the exact right medicine.

How do you relax? I mean really and truly relax?
We seem to be able to do so many things, why don’t we seem to be able to rest in the air? And what happens when we do?

I’ve noticed;
life becomes slower, sweeter, gentler,
our pain begins to dissolve, as do our chronic conditions,
we stand taller, we enjoy more energy, life, intuition, and creativity flow

We stand in meditation to:
Understand the fundamental forces of energy in our body
Synchronize our body and mind
Feel the forces of heaven and earth fused together through our body
The results can be potent.
Want to try?

You’re invited to a special event from Moving Meditations.
We’re releasing tension, increasing health, and welcoming more vitality with a practice from the ancient and healing arts of qi gong; Standing Meditation

What is Standing Meditation?
It’s an energetic system of exercise. Unlike nearly all others that consume energy, standing still, aligned between earth and sky, generates energy within our body nearly always leaving the practitioner filled with renewed vitality. One that relaxes both the nervous system and the entire muscular system simultaneously. One that uniquely requires our body, mind, and heart to work in unison leading to a delicious coherence within.

This coherence makes a real difference in the way we engage with the world around us. Calm and centered within we are less reactive, more trusting, and in a deeper relationship with ourself. With deep roots we create a strong foundation for our lives, less easily blown about when life’s storms threaten to topple us. And maybe best of all, the increased clarity and energy lead to more ease, play, relating, and all the in-between.

When a person roots themselves back in the Earth beneath their feet – and when they really feel it – the effect is almost like magic. - Shi Heng Yi

Zhan Zhaung, Qi Gong Standing Meditation
Our practice will consist of seven guided standing meditation sessions recorded outdoors in the late summer early fall. Each session will begin with breathing and very gentle qi gong warm up exercises designed to lubricate and nurture our joints, followed by our 5 minute standing practice. Sessions will last 20 -35 minutes.

You can practice anywhere and at anytime, maybe you’ll find the perfect time in your schedule before the 14th. My favorite time to practice is very first thing in the morning near an open window, in silence, with a lit candle. You might find you like to wander outdoors or open a window, let that freshness in!

You can practice in any clothing, in bare feet or flat-soled shoes. You might like room enough to swing your ams and kick your legs (although, spoiler, we will do very very few leg kicks, if any at all)

Most, if not all, sessions begin seated, you may want something to sit upon available.

Why stand in meditation?
Standing in Zhan Zhuang we are operating at a very detailed level. The stillness of the pose offers our mind the time and space to engage with ourself and our body. We observe ourselves. We become more aware. We open to the subtle wisdom around and within us. Standing, we have an immersive experience of our Three Treasures, using our breath, mind, and alignment to supercharge our human body.

If you immerse yourself in the practice of Zhan Zhuang it will lead you inward, allowing you to see parts of yourself you have never discovered before. - Shi Heng Yi

A scrupulous alignment of our skeleton
In traditional Chinese medicine, and in my previous physical therapy role, practitioners talk about energy blockages or qi stagnation. This occurs when energy can no longer circulate freely along the channels or pathways of the body, as it naturally would if the structure were properly aligned. Sitting, standing, walking, living with compromised posture leads to tension. Tension created blockages, our muscles have to use extra energy to compensate for our poor alignment.

These energy blockages result in physical and psychological imbalances, which are the underlying causes of various illnesses. - Master Lam Kam Chuen

There is something very powerful about standing aligned between heaven and earth while directing our body to relax, we gain awareness of where and how our body holds tension, we notice our habitual patterns of contraction. We practice relaxing and releasing, aligning ourselves until our body weight is almost entirely supported by a correctly aligned structure leading to increased health, vitality, and energy.

One of my jobs took me to the hospital yesterday.
Not for me, but for a client.

I think about longevity.
I observe aging.
Questions arise. Confusion remains.
But one thing has become clear to me - I have to keep this body moving.
And in the more ways, the better.

Preparing for a qi gong session this week, I wrote notes to myself of how the movements progress, and smiled at what formed.

Regulate, harmonize, expand, wave, separate, repel, row, lift, turn, push, wave, scoop, undulate, open, punch, fly, turn, bounce, calm.

Not only did it sound enjoyable; it seems to me to outline just how these bodies are designed to move.

Regulate Breath, a new qi gong session will be available here, on YouTube, on Wednesday.

I’m wishing you peaceful chi,
Kathy

What a delight to walk out my front door and see all of this.
I love the balloons.
I love how they float so gently, almost silently along the sky.
I love how, high up, they are both a part of it all and completely removed from it all.
The way they float gracefully observing, reminds me of moving in meditation.

You’re invited to join me to connect deeply to your inner experience while observing the world around you.

We’ve just Begun a standing meditation practice.
A what?
A way to increase our energy.
A way to align our physical structure thereby releasing causes of pain and disease.

It doesn’t happen overnight but gradually builds and builds and builds.

Why are my daily tasks easier?
Why do I have more energy now when usually I’m conked out?
Why did I say yes to that invitation when I normally say no?
And why do I have so much more stamina at my painting easel?
Are just a few of the questions I’ve been contemplating since beginning.

You’re invited to join us - BEGINNING is available now: https://youtu.be/epEUaO4AVIo?si=jwhH8...

I hope you see you inside. I’m wishing you graceful qi,
Kathy

What I do here affects what happens there. It’s hard for me to believe, it’s nearly impossible for me to explain, and it is so deeply true.

A movement practice that unites all of me, an exercise routine that trains my heart and mind as much as my body.

Breath Breath expands what stress constricts,
movement releases what fear blocks,
focus chooses what nurtures and grows,
leaving me a body at peace with itself and in harmony with the world around it

Oh my gosh the weather is stunning!
Off to the arboretum I went to record a session celebrating, appreciating, and acknowledging this season of Late Summer, Earth, and smooth transitions.

Do you have a movement practice? Do you have a spiritual practice? You’re invited into the Moving Meditations channel where we move gently.

A special session, available to all, is coming on Wednesday, September 9th. Maybe I’ll see you for it?

Want more, longer and deeper sessions? You can find it here: patreon.com/cw/movingmeditation

I would love to know how your practice is going, let me know?

Wishing you peaceful qi and beautiful creations,
Kathy

The Bountifulness of August
How has August been for you?
Have you had time to practice?

Reflecting
helps me feel connected and engaged in my life. It helps keep me honest - so much good happens each day and I find acknowledging it both feels good and helps it grow.

Refinement
For me August has been a generous flow of life. As the energies within me align more and more I’m noticing all sorts of little shifts and big changes. I’m receiving ideas, thoughts, and internal instructions all making my life fit even better.

Ease
These movement practices align our body, heart, and mind. Our practice follows us off of our mat; it’s customary to begin moving less inhibited, with less thought, and with more trust.

She moves in mysterious ways
This increase in trust showed up for me this month in unexpected ways and I’m appreciating it all so much, would you like a couple of highlights?

- I began a new qi gong study and practice with the Shaolin Temple of Europe - I wasn’t consciously aware I was seeking, but something within sure was, and the ease with which what I want showed up feels wonderful

- Stella, my adventure companion, became injured and we had to radically shift our activities. What my mind wanted to label as a problem ended up leading to new activities and discoveries. More refinement! I discovered a wonderful spot from which to plein air paint by the river.

- A new camera and microphone! for recording Moving Meditations - it’s a lot to learn, but I’m loving both the challenge and the creativity they are bringing me

Welcome the bountifulness of harvest season!

✨ Upcoming highlight: On September 9th a special, new, and free meditation will be available to everyone ✨

Beginning - A Standing Qi Gong Practice
There is something incredibly powerful, and to me healing, about a standing meditation practice. We’re beginning slowly and gently, I so hope you’ll join me.

Do you have something to share with me? Or to ask me? You’re invited to share below, to share in a chat, or to message me.

I hope you have delicious days to close out the bountifulness of August.
Wishing you peaceful qi,
Kathy

A somatic experience
When I first began my journey of illumination with the Gene Keys they led me very quickly into a study of Tai Chi and Gi Gong.

At the time I was suffering from chronic disease, persistent pain, and burnout.

It feels for me very much like I am just following urges from within. I don't often know what I am up to or why I'm doing the things that I am doing but they feel so right and so true. I almost feel like I'm walking up an invisible flight of stairs. And this morning I was gifted another incredible experience.

I've begun a practice of standing meditation. So very simply put, the ancient Taoists believed that the energies of heaven and earth run through us and as we stand aligned between them we are aligning ourselves.

This morning I felt it. My experience reminded me of Richard's meditations in the Art of Contemplation (some of my very most favorites). I could sense the tension in my body wasn't isolated to only my physical body, this tension was something more. And as I began to release everything began to change.

I recorded an audio capturing my experience, would you like to listen to it?

Wishing you deep releases of internal tension,

Hello friends,
Today I have something new to share with you, a Moving Meditation movement practice.

You’re invited into comfortable unrestrictive clothing, a space to move freely in, a comfy spot to rest, and to join me in a Moving Meditation practice based on the ancient healing arts of Tai Chi and Qi gong.
Would you like to join me?

This is a special project.
I’ve been sharing these meditations locally, in a beautiful arboretum at a local park. It’s really lovely.
And I belong to a spiritual community, The Gene Keys. (Links below)
The Gene Keys founder, Richard Rudd, is leading an online 18 month long retreat and has invited those of us who are Guides in the community to offer our magic, our medicine, our service.
And so I am.
I’m hosting an adjunct group for the retreat, and this is a sample.

The idea arose to offer it to you, those who may come across this.
I’ve not shared this video publicly, I’m not sure I will.
I trust it will find anyone who will benefit from it.

Here is the link, please free to share it: https://youtu.be/cuI2GzuM6gA

If you do play, I would so appreciate a comment letting me know your experience and if perhaps you’d like more?

With Love,
Kathy

I'm working on new videos. I've been recording and working and hope to be home with my editing tools soon! How are you? It's so muddy here! 😆

I'm really loving my life at the moment.
I'm not bragging!

Things are difficult. I mean really difficult, I don't have to tell you. But as sad, mad, enraged, gutted I am, something else is here too.
Peace
Love
an expanding allowance.

And so I'm finding myself taking very long meandering walks in the sun with Stella. Stopping to breathe deeply and move gently.
And in this way I seem to be not just surviving but also becoming.
I wonder, what are your practices?

Wishing you peace 🙏🏻

How do we find peace?
How is it found through the body?

I have something to share with you, but it has to wait until lIm back at a desktop computer - unless you know a way to convert mov files to mp4 on an ios device. ?

How are you? How are you coping with it all? Do you have community and a practice?

I'm wishing you so much peace
