2024 and 2025 were some up and down years for MiIdnight North. We took a pause from touring in early 2024 after Elliott had a really tough health scare, then Grahame’s dad passed in late 2024, and then in the fall of 2025 we took another break to welcome three Midnight North babies into the world all in the span of a couple months from each other! 👶👶👶
Now we are thrilled to be back at it together! With these new little additions to care for, we won’t be on the road as often as we used to, but our plan is to go out for a weekend of shows a month starting in April. So this Spring catch us in April in NorCal, in May in SoCal, and we’ll let you know soon where you can catch us in June and beyond!

We were not fresh off a tour or a recording session, nor did we play a perfect show at The Great American Music Hall that night, but we felt the show was worthy of release because it captured the sound of 5 musicians filled with gratitude to return to the stage after an incredibly challenging year. We experienced heavy loss and serious illness that kept us mostly off the road in 2024, but the hope of reuniting through music kept us moving forward. The emotion is audibly woven throughout this special return to one of our favorite Bay Area venues. We hope you enjoy the performance and can hear the appreciation we all feel to have music in our lives and the open arms of our fans welcoming us back." - Elliott Peck

It's here! "Diamonds in the Zodiac", our new studio album produced by Amy Helm, is available wherever you stream your music! Diamonds in the Zodiac was recorded between October 2022 and January 2023 at Spacecamp under the guidance of our wonderful producer Amy Helm.
“This is the fifth studio record I’ve had the privilege of creating with my musical family Midnight North. “I believe it is the best representation to date of our band as songwriters & musicians. This record truly showcases the many musical influences that live inside each of us. It was a novel approach for us to bring in a producer - Amy Helm - who we all respect tremendously as an artist, and who - like Grahame - is part of the lineage of some of the greatest songs ever written in the American songbook. "With our final recording session approaching for Diamonds in the Zodiac this January, I was eager to finish a song I’d been laboring over for some time. However, the more time I put into finding the right words for it, the less return I was getting. I made the decision to shelve the song & made peace with having no final tune to bring to the session.
That night a lyric popped into my head, something my friend & musical colleague Scott Law once said about getting stuck within a live improvised jam that goes around & around, with no one being able to find the exit off the freeway. I thought about this concept within the realm of music, but also in relationships. That feeling of being stuck on a loop with no clear resolution to a reoccurring issue, yet you know it will eventually come back around.
The rest of the lyrics & melody spilled out effortlessly that evening. And the song was finished within a matter of hours. A good reminder as a writer & human to let go of what causes struggle, and create the space to what was meant to be there all along.
I played the song for the first time for Grahame & Amy & they gave me their approval. We recorded it the next day live at Spacecamp studio in just a few takes. I almost feel like I can’t take credit for writing it, it just showed up. But usually those end of being my favorites. Like a gift from some source we don’t understand. I guess sometimes a song just wants to be heard & the best you thing you can do is get out it’s way." -Elliott

"'Back to California' was originally written for our 3rd album, Under the Lights, right after our first East Coast tour in 2015 - the first time we’d really been out in the world as a band on tour. It felt like we could claim some of that classic rock and roll imagery of troubadours on the road eating up the miles. The themes are right there on the surface - they touch on a yearning for home that the narrator feels while still feeling the excitement of being out in the world.
Even though it’s a younger me who wrote those lyrics, they still seem to fit on the new album 'Diamonds in the Zodiac' too. We changed the key and updated the feel, and it feels like it finally fits musically with where the band is now. It has become one of my favorite songs to play live, and I’m thrilled that this version is on the record.
Nathan, who ironically is the one band member who doesn’t live in California, has coined the genre 'Bay Rock' to describe the vibe of “Back to California” V2. A rolling, continuous drum groove with the extra topping of hand drum percussion anchors the whole track, evoking the band’s home Bay Area musically while also being the perfect track to turn up while driving through the Robin Williams tunnel from Sausalito to the Golden Gate Bridge.
'Back to California' features backing vocals from the entire choir of the full band and extended family of musicians who were at the studio that day, including Phil Lesh, Amy Helm, and touring keyboard player TJ Kanczuzewski. TJ also wrote and played the piano hook that appears in the intro and outro and really solidified the updated rendition of the tune." -Grahame
