👀 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬… 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 “𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐬.”

With enormous canine teeth, powerful paws, and a long tail built for balance, the clouded leopard looks almost like a combination of several different cats.

But this secretive forest predator is entirely unique—and 𝐬𝐨 𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐮𝐬.

🎨 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐭: Tawny to gray with large, irregular dark-edged markings resembling clouds

Its 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥—sometimes nearly as long as its body—acts like a counterbalance as it moves through trees.

🐾🌱 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬. 𝐀 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Our conservation partner, the Ocelot Working Group, is helping children discover the wild cats sharing their corner of the world! 💚

In the Indigenous community of Santa Cruz del Bioto in 𝐉𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨, 𝐌𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐨, children ages 8–13 joined an environmental education workshop to learn about the region’s small wild cats and their importance in the ecosystem.

📸 They explored how camera traps work.
🎨 Drawing activities brought food chains and predator–prey relationships to life.
🌳 Each child planted a native amapa tree in a symbolic reforestation activity.

Meanwhile, the team’s camera traps continue to record wild cats nearby—a reminder of why this ongoing work with local communities matters.

Earlier this year, the Ocelot Working Group also held pet vaccination and neutering campaigns in the community, extending their conservation efforts beyond the forest and into everyday life.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞. These children are growing up with the opportunity to do all three. 🐾💚

𝐋𝐄𝐓’𝐒 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄! 🎉
𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐁𝐎𝐁𝐂𝐀𝐓 𝐃𝐀𝐘! 🐾 🌎
🏘️ 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐛𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭.

Today is 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐛𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲, a chance to celebrate one of the America’s remarkable wild neighbors! Found from southern Canada through much of the United States and into Mexico, bobcats help keep populations of rodents, rabbits, and other prey in balance. These quiet hunters play a 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬. 🌿

But even an adaptable cat needs our help. 𝑯𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅𝒔 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒂𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝒗𝒆𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒍𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒍. 𝑹𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒐𝒃𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒚.

Although bobcats are classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, local populations can still face serious threats. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 them now helps keep this familiar wild cat thriving for generations to come.

💚 Conservation starts with making room for wildlife. Protecting habitat, connecting wild spaces with wildlife corridors, creating safer road crossings, and studying bobcat populations all support their future.

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩, 𝐭𝐨𝐨:
🐾 Choose rodent control methods that avoid poisons.
🐾 Keep pets supervised and secure poultry.
🐾 Give bobcats space, and never feed or approach them.
🐾 Share facts that replace fear with understanding.

Meet the 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐨 𝐁𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐭 (𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑝𝑢𝑚𝑎 𝑏𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑎).

Found 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐨, this elusive wild feline is one of the 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭-𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭-𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐝 cats in the world. So rarely seen in the wild, much of what scientists know about it has come from camera traps and a small number of confirmed observations.

The Borneo bay cat usually has a rich reddish-brown coat, though some individuals appear more grayish, and it has a relatively long tail compared to its body.

It lives in dense tropical forests, where its secretive nature makes it incredibly difficult to study. Because of this, every photo and confirmed sighting helps researchers better understand this mysterious cat.

Like many forest-dependent species, the Borneo bay cat faces 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, making protection of Borneo’s remaining forests essential to its survival.

👉 Did you guess Borneo bay cat correctly?

👇 Had you ever heard of this rare wild cat before today?

Next Monday, another mystery cat will be waiting in the shadows… 🐾✨
