President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday concluded her three-day visit to Sikkim and returned to Delhi after attending the President’s Colour Award ceremony held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.
During her visit, the President also participated in a plantation drive at Lok Bhavan as part of environmental and awareness initiatives.
She departed from the Lining Helipad in an Indian Air Force helicopter. The President was seen off by Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Ministers-in-Waiting before leaving for Delhi.
The President’s visit to Sikkim included several official engagements and ceremonies, marking an important occasion for the state.

Accident Near Mayfair, Gangtok: Sikkim Milk Union Vehicle Collides with Eco Van, One Seriously Injured

An accident occurred near Mayfair, Gangtok, along NH10, involving a Sikkim Milk Union vehicle and an Eco Van. The collision resulted in injuries to six individuals, including five passengers from the Eco Van and the truck driver. According to police reports, one person is in serious condition. All the injured were immediately transported to Manipal Hospital for medical treatment.

As announced earlier, Citizen Action Party - Sikkim stages a day long Dharna at the premises of District Administrative Centre at Gangtok on Friday.

On June 5, the executives of CAP led by it's Chief Coordinator, Ganesh Rai, had met Special Secretary, DoP at Tashiling secretariat, to raise the issue of alleged "termination" of employees working under OFOJ. They had given ten days ultimatum to reinstate the terminated employees.

With the ultimatum expiring on June 15 the executive members of CAP had met Secretary, DoP, again the same day. However, the meeting failed to come to any conclusion, with Secretary asking for additional ten days time period to assess the matter and CAP announcing to stage Dharna at DAC complex Gangtok on June 16 to "gain the attention of the government" CAP executives had said.

CAP has continuously been alleging the SKM led government of terminating OFOJ employees without any notice solely because of their political affiliation to the ideology of CAP - Sikkim and had termed it "politically motivated" terminations.

Meanwhile, no statements has been issued either by the department or from the government on the alleged terminations of "more than fifty OFOJ employees" as claimed by CAP.

261 people killed and around 900 injured in a horrific train accident at Odisha

As per national reports, "The toll in the disastrous railway accident in Odisha has risen to 261 and rescue operations at the site have been completed, a South Eastern Railway official said on Saturday. "The number of casualties in Friday's railway accident has increased to 261. Another 650 injured passengers are being treated at various hospitals in Odisha," SER spokesperson Aditya Chowdhury said."

Nepal Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal - Prachanda has arrived in New Delhi for a four-day visit on Wednesday. This is his first trip after assuming office in December last year and is in New Delhi at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nepal PM in his visit is scheduled to meet President of India, Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and PM Modi and will hold extensive talks with his counterpart on diverse areas of bilateral partnership between two nations. The visit is scheduled from May 31 to June 3, 2023.

A total of 260 teachers and HOI's who retired in the year 2021 will be felicitated by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Indian ace athlete Neeraj Chopra is now the world No. 1 in the latest men’s javelin throw rankings issued by the World Athletics on Monday.

Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Chopra, topped the charts with 1455 points, 22 ahead of Grenada’s Anderson Peters. He rose to world No. 2 on August 30, 2022, but was behind Peters, the reigning world No. 1.

The Indian Javelin throw ace won the Diamond League 2022 finals held in Zurich last year, becoming the first Indian athlete to win the prestigious Diamond League trophy. He also finished first at the season-opening of Doha Diamond League on May 5 this year with throw of 88.67 m against 85.88m of Anderson Peters. He is set to compete at FBK Games scheduled for June 4 in the Netherlands.
