This is one of those issues that cuts across party lines.

Members of Congress currently have no federal term limits. As long as they continue winning elections, they can keep serving. And the Supreme Court has already ruled that individual states cannot impose their own term limits on members of Congress; changing that system would require a constitutional amendment.

That means a national term-limit amendment would need to clear an enormous constitutional hurdle: proposal through Article V and ratification by three-fourths of the states.

The real debate is bigger than age.

It is about turnover.

Institutional power.

Experience versus entrenchment.

Whether voters should always have the option to keep reelecting someone they want — or whether public office should come with a built-in expiration date.

I know where a lot of people stand on this, but I want to hear the argument on both sides.

There are several major developments in the Nick Reiner case.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Reiner, who is accused of murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. If convicted on the special-circumstance murder charges, the maximum punishment would instead be life without parole. Hochman said the decision followed a review of aggravating and mitigating factors and discussions with Reiner’s surviving siblings.

At the same time, there is a separate fight over money.

Nick has been trying to access money from a trust his parents established for him years before their deaths. His position is essentially that part of that trust was already supposed to be distributed to him before the killings. Trustees have argued California’s slayer statute creates a serious legal problem because that law can prevent someone who intentionally kills a benefactor from receiving assets because of that death. Nick has pleaded not guilty and has not been convicted.

And his siblings?

They are living through something almost impossible to comprehend.

They lost both parents — and their brother is the person accused of killing them.

This case has murder charges, money, family trauma, mental-health questions, sealed grand-jury material and now a death-penalty decision.

And we still do not publicly know the full prosecution theory of why this happened.

That is why I’m watching this one closely.

Six Major Reddington Requests. Six Denials. Let’s Talk About What That Meant for Lindsay Clancy’s Trial.

This carousel is not saying Judge Sullivan was required to grant every motion Kevin Reddington filed.

He wasn’t.

But taken together, these rulings shaped the trial in a BIG way.

Reddington asked to separate the questions of whether Lindsay committed the acts and whether she was criminally responsible.

Denied.

He asked to sequester the jury during one of the most publicly discussed trials in the country.

Denied.

He asked for a required finding of not guilty after the Commonwealth rested.

Denied.

He sought an additional McLean witness to challenge the picture of Lindsay’s hospitalization presented to jurors.

Denied.

He asked for a mistrial after religious testimony the judge later told jurors to disregard.

Denied.

And he asked for a Bowden instruction specifically telling jurors they could consider alleged failures in the police investigation when evaluating reasonable doubt.

Denied.

Each ruling can be defended individually under courtroom procedure.

But I think the more interesting question is what happens when you stack them all together.

Because every one of these decisions affected what the jury heard, how they were instructed, what evidence the defense could present, and how the case was ultimately framed.

And after all of that?

The trial still ended in a mistrial.

The Lone Holdout Says He Never Had Reasonable Doubt About Lindsay Clancy

Well… the holdout juror has officially entered the chat.

The lone juror who prevented a unanimous NGRI verdict in the Lindsay Clancy trial has now spoken publicly, and his version of deliberations directly conflicts with what other jurors have said.

According to reporting on his interview with Ray Marcel, he says he believed Lindsay was guilty from day one and denies ever saying he had reasonable doubt.

That is a BIG deal because the jury foreperson previously said the holdout had acknowledged reasonable doubt but refused to apply it the way the court instructed. Other jurors also described him as dismissive and difficult to engage during deliberations.

So now we have two completely different versions of what happened inside that jury room.

One side says:

he admitted doubt and would not apply the law.

He says:

I never had doubt at all.

And that contradiction is exactly why this case is still exploding after the mistrial.

Because if he truly believed Lindsay was guilty from the beginning, then I want to know how open he actually was to the insanity defense, the expert testimony, and the judge’s instructions once deliberations started.

This story is nowhere near over.

A Full Day of Rain, a Stunning Rainbow and the Life That Let Me Stop and See It 🌈🤍

It rained all day today.

I was parked at the park from morning through evening — Moonlight doing his thing, the van holding us both in that cozy way it does when the rain is on the roof and the world outside is soft and gray and quiet.

I love the rain. I grew up in Kansas where weather is not background noise but something you pay attention to and respect and sometimes fear and always notice. And a full day of rain has always felt to me like a gift. Like the world taking a breath. Like permission to be still.

And then as I drove out this evening the sky broke open.

A rainbow. Full width across everything I could see. Vivid in that way that makes you wonder if something is trying to get your attention. And behind it the sunset was doing what Texas sunsets do — painting the remaining clouds in every shade of gold and rose and amber until the whole sky looked like something that shouldn’t be real but absolutely is.

I stopped the van. I sat there. I let it land completely.

And I thought about something.

Every single day I live this life I notice things I would have driven past before. Small things. Quiet things. The independent gosling on the shore. The great blue heron perfectly still before the strike. The rain on the lake at dawn. The audacious squirrel in the tree. The ducklings having breakfast. The rainbow at the end of a gray and beautiful day.

None of these things are dramatic. None of them announce themselves. They just exist. Quietly. Waiting to be seen by someone moving slowly enough and freely enough to actually see them.

This life gave me that. The freedom to stop. The freedom to look. The freedom to let something beautiful matter without rushing past it toward whatever came next.

The rainbow was the punctuation on a perfect rainy day. A full stop at the end of something I will carry with me for a long time.

I am so grateful I was here for it.

I am so grateful I chose this. 🌈🤍🐾
