What am I doing with all these things? Well, years ago, when I was selling candles, I thought it would be fun to make soap to go along with them. So I did what any reasonable person would do… I went down the YouTube rabbit hole!
I watched a ton of videos, experimented with some simple recipes at first, and then spent MONTHS tweaking the ingredients until I finally came up with a recipe I loved. These are the oils and butters I landed on.
I stopped selling all of it a few years ago, but I still love making my own soap just for fun. Of course, I don't do it very often, so every time I make a batch, I have to knock a little rust off!
And I'm about due for another batch because my personal stash is running low. The only catch is that after you make soap, it's best to let it cure for another four to eight weeks before you start using it. So I probably should have thought of this a little sooner!
Well, I'm hoping to make a batch this weekend, like Sunday afternoon, so I'm getting some of the prep work now. That way, when I'm ready to make the soap, I can spend less time measuring and organizing everything and more time enjoying the process.
Sometimes it goes really well, sometimes…not so much. Either way, I’ll let you see how it turns out!
