A co-teacher took this photo at my school. Two Grade 1 students walking down the hallway, holding hands. Awwwww...

It got me thinking. Nobody told them it was strange. Nobody told them boys and girls can't just hold hands without it meaning something. Nobody told them to worry about what others might think.

They're friends. They wanted to hold hands. So they did. It felt natural to them, no?

Then we grow up. We learn to add labels, and we learn to overthink. We learn to keep our distance.

Maybe growing up teaches us a lot. I'm sure it does.. Of course, it does. But perhaps it also teaches us to forget a few things we should have kept. Aw, I just love this photo. 😍🤭

Life will throw many things at you... challenges, exhaustion, pain, frustration, anxiety, mistakes. Take care of your relationships not only when life is easy, but especially when it gets complicated. You don’t have to conquer every obstacle. No. Just make sure that, along the way, you don’t lose the people who matter most. I always say it, and I'll say it again: choose your people wisely. Then choose them again when life gets hard.

I wish I understood it when I was in my 20-30s. Oh well.
