Takes™ by Jamelle Bouie

Beginning this Sunday I am going to try a new weekly feature where I just answer your questions in a pre-recorded video rather than a live chat. Leave your questions here and I'll get to as many as I can!

Wanted to share these excerpts from Greg Sargent’s most recent interview with Rick Hasen, an election law expert. Hasen is making clear that Trump declaring a national emergency for elections is meaningless because he has no legal authority nor any mechanism for forcing state election officials to comply.

I know a lot of you don't think this stuff matters all that much, but *I* am still floored by the precipitous drop in Trump's approval. This is one poll, of course, but you see similar movement in other surveys. His average approval ranges from 37% in the New York Times tracker to 34% in The Economist tracker. For comparison's sake, George W. Bush hit 33 percent in the fall of 2008.

It's that time again! I'm doing a YouTube-only live stream tomorrow afternoon — Friday, July 24 — from noon to 1pm eastern day light time. I'll see you tomorrow and if you can't make it, leave your questions in the comments.

I'm going to start a new, regular feature of the channel: an AMA. Everything month, I'll take your questions and try to answer them as candidly as I can. Consider this an open thread for questions you want me to answer this month!

(Eventually, I will get back into streaming, but I have to find the time!)
