NAGALAND DRAFT ELECTORAL ROLL EXCLUDES OVER 1.5 LAKH NAMES AFTER SIR
Nagaland’s draft electoral roll published on September 20 following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has excluded more than 1.5 lakh names from the previous electoral roll. The draft list contains 11,99,456 general electors and 7,001 service electors, bringing the total to 12,06,457.
The revision identified 29,944 electors as deceased, while around 1.23 lakh were categorised as absent or permanently shifted and 5,059 were found enrolled at multiple locations. The enumeration exercise was conducted from August 16 to September 14.
Voters whose names are missing from the draft roll can file claims and objections until October 20. The notice and disposal process will continue until November 18, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 22, 2026.

7 DETAINED BY RPF OVER SUSPECTED THEFT OF 150 LITRES OF RAILWAY HSD OIL
Seven persons have been detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on suspicion of involvement in the theft of High Speed Diesel (HSD) oil from railway premises.
During the operation, the RPF reportedly recovered around 150 litres of suspected stolen HSD oil from the possession of the detained persons. The individuals are being questioned to determine the source of the fuel and their alleged involvement, while authorities are also examining whether the case is linked to an organised fuel theft operation.
The recovered HSD has been taken into custody as the investigation continues. Further details on the location, identities of those detained and legal action are awaited.

MANIPUR SHUT DOWN AS NRFM ENFORCES 24-HOUR BANDH OVER 1949 MERGER AGREEMENT
Normal life was disrupted across Manipur on September 21, 2026, as the proscribed National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) enforced a 24-hour statewide bandh opposing the 1949 Manipur Merger Agreement.
The shutdown began at midnight on September 20 and affected educational institutions, banks, shops, businesses, private offices and public transport, particularly in the valley districts. Inter-state road transport was also suspended, while airline services continued normally. Essential services including healthcare, fire services, water supply and media activities were exempted.
Ahead of the bandh, a joint team of the Special Commando Unit and 10 Assam Rifles arrested an alleged active NRFM cadre, identified as 39-year-old Namoijam Boboi Mangang, near RIMS Lamphel. Security vehicles patrolled sensitive areas as authorities monitored the situation.

Based on reliable information corroborated with 33 Assam Rifles, a team of CDO-Imphal West conducted search operations at different locations in Imphal West and Imphal East districts on September 20, 2026.
Two alleged active members of PREPAK were arrested for their suspected involvement in extortion activities. They were identified as Heikham Amujao Singh (45), arrested from the North AOC area, and Athokpam Robinkumar Singh (46), apprehended from his residence in Ningomthong Kitna Panung.

NAGALAND FILMMAKER THEJA RIO WINS PLATFORM PRIZE AT TIFF 2026 FOR ‘ANGH’
Nagaland filmmaker Theja Rio has won the Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for his film Angh, a period drama exploring cultural transformation, identity and the impact of Christianity on an Indigenous Naga community.
The award was announced on September 20 after Angh was selected among 12 films in TIFF’s prestigious Platform programme. The jury praised Rio’s “vision, audacity, and courage” and the film’s refreshing perspective and portrayal of a changing world. The Platform Prize carries a CAD 20,000 cash award and trophy, while the win also provides a pathway for the film to be considered for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
Set in a remote Naga village near the Indo-Myanmar border in the 1960s, Angh follows Anghba, the last surviving chief of an abandoned village, as an American missionary introduces Christianity and new customs, creating tensions between traditional practices and the emerging faith. The film draws on Naga oral histories, traditions and spiritual beliefs and was shot on 16mm film.

ARUNACHAL’S NYEMAN WANGSU TO COMPETE IN ASIAN GAMES WUSHU FINAL
Arunachal Pradesh wushu player Nyeman Wangsu will represent India in the women’s Changquan final at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 21, with a medal at stake.
Hailing from Kanubari in Longding district, Wangsu has created history by becoming the first wushu player from Arunachal Pradesh to qualify for the Asian Games twice. She was earlier selected for the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games but was unable to participate due to visa-related issues.
Wangsu’s qualification marks a significant achievement for Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast, as she now competes among India’s medal contenders in wushu at the continental event. The 20th Asian Games are being held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, featuring competitions across 43 sports.

3.64 KG SUSPECTED CANNABIS SEIZED AT GUWAHATI RAILWAY STATION, MAN ARRESTED
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a 31-year-old man with 3.64 kg of suspected cannabis during a surveillance operation at Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Abhimanyu Basu of Kolkata, was intercepted at Platform No. 1 near the cloak room. RPF personnel reportedly recovered four packets containing suspected cannabis from a trolley bag in his possession, with an estimated market value of around ₹40,000.
According to RPF, Basu claimed during questioning that he had collected the suspected contraband in Shillong and was transporting it by train to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) for monetary gain. The accused and seized material were handed over to GRP Guwahati, which registered a case under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.
