Duncan Sheik was one of my earliest songwriting heroes when I was starting out and I’m so sad to hear of his sudden passing this weekend. It’s hard to put into words how much his music has meant to me and my life and how many memories are wrapped up inside of it. From high school to the last song of my wedding day, let alone his steady influence on pretty much everything I’ve ever produced for Five Times August. His work is part of my songwriting DNA. Rest in Peace Duncan - thanks for everything. 🙏 🎶

Awesome getting to reconnect and say hi to singer-songwriter Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon. This guy’s music made such a huge impact on me when I was starting out that still carries through today, and the live show still sounds as great as ever. Thanks Matt!
Super great finally getting to share the stage with bassist Sean Hurley last night at the Five For Fighting show in Dallas. You’ve heard his playing on countless hit records and seen him on the road with some pretty major artists, but most notably, and I’m positive a major highlight of his career, was his work on my 2009 album “Life as a Song” 😵💫 😝 But for real he’s one of the best there is. Awesome night. Thanks Sean.
