Historically, I and J were originally the same letter. For centuries, J was simply a stylistic variant of I before becoming its own distinct letter around the 16th–17th centuries.
That’s one reason Torah-observant communities don’t call the Messiah “Jesus.”
His name would have been closer to Yahusha or Yeshua (I might explain this discrepancy one day). In Greek, it was written Iesous because Greek was simply trying to mimic the sounds of a Hebrew name.
The Ie- at the beginning of Iesous corresponds to the Hebrew yod (𐤉), which corresponds to the English letter Y—not the modern English letter J.
That’s why names like Yah, Yerushalayim, and Yehudah all begin with Y. The same Hebrew letter can also make the long “ee” sound, like the second Y in Yerushalayim.
English also sometimes writes that same long “ee” sound with an I—like Elohim—because, well… English be Englishin’. 🙄
That’s why the English language is the butt of so many jokes. Why do the letters Y, I, EE, and even sometimes E (like the word “even”) all make the same sound? 😂
Discernment Requires Ongoing Healing in a World That Keeps Wounding
Sometimes, it is not ABBA warning us about a person. Sometimes we are projecting our un-grieved soul wounds and unmet needs onto others. Remember to pray for a clean heart, right spirit, and renewed mind before you write someone off completely.
#TBT - It’s more common for me to get head covering comments, but occasionally I also get “I suffer not a woman to teach.” It’s nice to have a canned response to educate the ignorant and unstable who misunderstand Paul (2 Peter 3:15-16). I have so much more to say, but I’m trying to save it for the head covering lesson.🥰
Please listen and share. This video is inspired in part by all the self-proclaimed ‘good men’ harassing me in my comments, but also by my statement of objectives for my PhD application.
