Sean Harman is an ISA Certified Arborist (MA-6197A) based in Alexandria and Fort Hunt, Virginia, providing arborist-led education and field-based insight into tree biology, pruning practices, tree risk, and complex removals throughout Northern Virginia.
This channel explains how tree problems develop over time, why some pruning cuts fail to compartmentalize, and how proper access, precision, and biological understanding influence long-term tree structure and public safety.
Content is filmed on site during real evaluations, climbing work, and crane-assisted removals. Videos emphasize correct pruning principles, CODIT (Compartmentalization of Decay in Trees, as described by Dr. Alex Shigo), and risk-based decision making for hazardous trees.
Sean Harman’s arborist perspective on wind-related tree failure and emergency risk mitigation has been featured by WJLA (ABC 7).

🌳 Fort Hunt Tree Observatory — What You’re Not Seeing in Trees
Some trees look perfectly fine.
They’re not.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be back in Fort Hunt Park documenting real trees, real defects, and real-world risk conditions as part of the Fort Hunt Tree Observatory Project.
This isn’t theory—this is field-based observation:
– Species + site conditions
– DBH and structural characteristics
– Hidden defects (included bark, decay, root issues)
– Failure patterns most people miss
– How trees actually respond over time
Most problems aren’t obvious until you know what to look for.
🎥 Field videos coming soon
