Just recently rewatched Eugène Lourié’s 1953 monster movie “the beast from 20,000 fathoms”

And I do gotta admit that it’s easily considered one of the most iconic monster movies of the 50s especially for being the movie that embodies the 1950s as the decade of monster and scifi movies and the movie in general is definitely wonderful from its pacing, suspense and atmosphere and a lot of well executed visual effects by Ray Harryhausen that are either impressive and terrifying at the same time and no joke, the stop motion shoots of the rhedosaurus did gave me chills due to how frightening and convincing they are especially with the perfect compositions that makes the monster look bigger and massive.

The characters are pretty much nothing to write home about and they are pretty forgettable but I didint mind them since the movie did a good job with its pacing and suspense and how either of those aspects made the film enjoyable, entertaining and easy to get invested due to the powerful build up of the creature that actually makes the movie pretty effective and frightening.

Overall, the beast from 20,000 fathoms is easily considered one of the most iconic monster movies of the 1950s and how it embodies the decade in general and it’s easily considered one of the greatest monster movies ever made.

Here are my least favorite Stephen king film adaptations

Trucks (1997): honestly despite that this movie feels similar to maximum overdrive due to its premise of killer vehicles and machines and even if this is a faithful adaptation to the short story but it’s honestly a pretty boring and a snoozefest to sit through due to how slow and tedious it feels especially that the movie features some random subplots that came out of nowhere especially even stupid moments like the notorious toy truck kill which is very laughable and dumb and uninteresting characters that didint have any sense of personality to them and say what you want about maximum overdrive and it’s controversial production due to Stephen king’s constant use of drugs and alcohol and how the film feels alot more ridiculous and absurd in its premise but at least it’s alot more fun and entertaining especially with its constant use of AC/DC as the soundtrack that makes the film very enjoyable in a so bad it’s good vibe, trucks on the other hand is an unbearable mess of a movie and it seriously makes maximum overdrive look like citizen Kane in comparison.

Children of the corn (1984): gotta be honest, I used to be hyped about this movie especially when I saw the trailer that did got me convinced at first along that I was also convinced that this movie is also gonna be as great or groundbreaking as Stephen king’s other horror stories like IT, the shining, Cujo, Christine, Carrie, maximum overdrive and even the mist and after seeing the movie and I do gotta admit and confess, it’s honestly really disappointing and mediocre due to that even if it has its interesting aspects like the idea of murderious cult like children who murdered their adults to worship their evil deity “he who walks behind the rows” and I do find either Isaac and malachai to be threatening villains and I do find the inclusion of two innocent kids that got caught up in the crossfire to be kinda interesting since the movie shows that not all of the children are pure evil or followed the cult along that the soundtrack is very thought provoking and creepy and it is definitely the best aspect about the movie but the film in general is pretty dull and forgettable due to the fact that it does have its pacing issues along that the acting and cinematography felt very lifeless and uninspiring, the main two characters like Burt and Vicky are pretty dull and not even Linda hamilton’s star power in this movie got me convinced and the final climax does feel very anticlimactic due to how the movie constantly builds up the demonic entity up until it reveals itself in a very blaffing and laughable way because of how badly executed the visual effects are depicted especially with the laughable yellow light when it kills Isaac along with the red fog that appeared in the climax.

And yes, I’m aware that children of the corn has a lot of sequels and remakes but I’m honestly gonna avoid them for good and just forget about them since I don’t like the original film all that much and besides, If i don’t like the original movie then why should I waste my time on direct to video schlocky sequels that are considered worst than the last.

And speaking of Linda Hamilton, I do remember that she said the best herself that children of the corn is one of her worst films especially that this movie came out months before the terminator came out and dominated the 80s and made Linda Hamilton a household name as Sarah Connor and I personally don’t blame her on her criticism on the movie because it is pretty bad and meandering.

(And no, I haven’t read either of the original short stories of both trucks and children of the corn especially that I don’t have “night shift” in my novel collection but I do find them quite convincing and i do give the sense that the original short stories would be better than the film adaptations and I will probably get the night shift book in my collection someday in the future in order to read the two short stories myself)

Which of these installments of the Carnosaur trilogy do you prefer the most?

Just recently finished watching all three Carnosaur movies like back to back (literally)

And in all honesty, my personal thoughts on these three movies didint really change all that much especially that my personal ranking and thoughts are honestly the same.

The first one is still the weakest of the trilogy in my opinion due to that the story is still convoluted and messy with some uninteresting and boring characters and the movie can be a little of a drag at times.

The second one is definitely my personal favorite installment of trilogy due to being like a cheap B movie knockoff of James Cameron’s aliens and do personally find it very entertaining and straight forward with its narrative and the characters are okay, even if it does have flaws and it’s honestly not that perfect but it’s still enjoyable at best.

And the third one is a little underrated and decent since it’s easily pretty entertaining with its action sequences and some decent characters though I still notoriously hated the weird editing sequence when the dinosaurs attacked the characters since it feels very bizarre and it does felt very drug like feel and it’s really awkward if you think about it and the movie does have some moments of filler.

Despite that this trilogy isn’t really perfect and the fact that it’s notoriously inferior to the original book but this B movie trilogy did succeeded of being a so bad it’s good experience, even if they failed as adaptations but they did succeeded as entertaining guilty pleasures.

Just recently gonna plan to rewatch all three installments of Roger Corman’s notorious B movie trilogy titled “Carnosaur”

Even if they are not great as adaptations especially that they are a far cry to the original 1984 novel by John Brosnan especially that the book feels a lot more like citizen Kane in comparison and yeah I do admittedly find all three of them to be really bad but I do find them to be really enjoyable as B movies and since the horror month aka October is coming on to the horizon, I’m definitely looking foward to rewatch all three of these movies back to back just to have a sense of guilty pleasure with these three B movies.

And before you guys ask, yes I did read the book though I’m still currently reading it, but i do admittedly love it and considered a really underrated horror novel especially that I do appreciate that it’s narrative is alot more straightforward and engaging due to be a simple conspiracy horror story that’s honestly quite enjoyable yet also brutal at the same time and it’s one of these books that I wished that it got a proper film adaptation and since if Jurassic park and primitive war got their proper film adaptations that succedded in their own right then I would honestly wish that Carnosaur gets a second chance on the big screen by getting remade by a Hollywood studio someday in the future.
