The first Gripen E produced in Brazil by Embraer completes its inaugural flight.
Embraer (NYSE: EMBJ / B3: EMBJ3) and Saab successfully completed the maiden flight of the first Gripen E manufactured in Brazil by #Embraer. The aircraft took off from Embraer's facilities in Gavião Peixoto (SP) for a mission aimed at verifying the performance of the aircraft's main systems and validating its flight characteristics.
This milestone represents a significant achievement for the Gripen Program and for the Brazilian aerospace and defense industry.

It reflects the #Brazilian Air Force's (FAB) strategic decision to structure the program based on technology transfer, strong participation from national industry, and the development of long-term competencies. For over a decade, this approach has enabled the establishment of critical infrastructure, knowledge, and industrial expertise in Brazil, which have evolved into a consolidated capacity to manufacture, integrate, and test next-generation combat aircraft, strengthening the Defense Industrial Base and the national aerospace sector.

Embraer played a key role in planning and executing the inaugural flight, demonstrating the maturity of the capabilities developed through the #Gripen Program and the close cooperation between the company, the Brazilian Air Force (#FAB), and Saab. Conducted by a Saab test pilot, the flight confirmed the aircraft's expected performance and generated crucial data for the continuation of the production and acceptance flight test campaign, which precedes delivery to the Brazilian Air Force.

“This flight of the first Gripen E produced by Embraer in Brazil is a historic milestone for the country's aerospace and defense industry. It consolidates the success of a long-term strategy that combined the vision of the Brazilian Air Force, Saab's expertise, and Embraer's engineering and manufacturing capabilities,” says Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer #Defense & Security. “More than an achievement of the Gripen Program, this milestone strengthens the country's Defense Industrial Base and leaves a lasting legacy of knowledge, innovation, and industrial capacity, contributing to national sovereignty and Brazil's competitiveness in the coming decades in highly complex global programs.”

“This inaugural flight demonstrates that Gripen production in Brazil has reached a new level of maturity. I am proud of our close cooperation with Embraer in the program.”

"Gripen, which establishes a solid foundation for the future development of the Gripen in #Brazil," says Marcus Wandt, head of the Aeronautics business area at #Saab.
Officially unveiled on March 25th, after the completion of final assembly by Embraer, the aircraft is the first of 15 units planned for production in Brazil under the current program. Manufactured in Gavião Peixoto (SP), the fighter reinforces the strategic role of the unit, which houses the only Gripen production line outside of Sweden and integrates Saab's global manufacturing and supply network.

After the completion of the production acceptance flight campaign, the aircraft will be certified as airworthy and ready for delivery to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). It will then be transferred to the Anápolis Air Base (GO), where it will become part of the First Air Defense Group (1º GDA), which currently operates the Gripen E.

A UPS employee reportedly missed an export-control warning, allowing an F-35 cockpit canopy and weapons-bay door to be routed through Hong Kong.
The shipment was supposed to travel from Australia to the U.S. through South Korea and Taiwan, but was diverted through Hong Kong after leaving Australia late.
The components reportedly included radar-absorbing material, raising concerns about possible access to F-35 stealth technology.
The Pentagon and State Department are investigating the incident, while U.S. authorities and industry partners are seeking to retrieve the components.

A revised Congressional Research Service assessment lists 12 F-15E Strike Eagles among U.S. aircraft lost or damaged during operations against Iran.
The figure includes three F-15Es destroyed by friendly fire over Kuwait, one lost over Iran, and eight reportedly damaged during an Iranian strike on Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.
The broader CRS tally includes 81 U.S. aircraft, helicopters and drones lost or damaged since February 2026, although some damaged aircraft have returned to service.
The assessment puts the potential replacement cost of the equipment losses at $1.9 billion–$3.3 billion

Four American Airlines flight attendants reportedly fell ill after eating leftover, unserved passenger meals during a positioning flight to Rome.
The Boeing 777-200ER was repositioning from the U.S. after a scheduled flight was cancelled.
The crew reportedly became sick shortly after consuming the meals, raising concerns about possible food contamination.
The exact cause has not been confirmed, and the aircraft later returned to Dallas with passengers.

A Delta passenger allegedly entered the restricted ramp area at John Wayne Airport and stole an Alaska Airlines tug, driving it across the airfield.
The joyride ended when he crashed the tug near Gate 7 before abandoning it and allegedly attempting to steal an American Airlines lavatory truck.
Police stopped the passenger roughly 10 minutes after the incident began, while flights were briefly halted during the security breach.
The passenger was arrested and taken to hospital for evaluation, turning a missed flight into an extraordinary airport incident.

Russia has asked Vietnam to wet-lease passenger aircraft, including crews, maintenance and insurance, as a growing share of its airline fleet remains grounded.
Vietnam is studying the proposal, but most of its major airline fleet consists of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, creating potential secondary-sanctions risks.
Nearly one-fifth of aircraft operated by Russia’s largest airlines are reportedly grounded, highlighting growing fleet-maintenance pressures.
The request comes after Russia re-registered hundreds of Western-leased aircraft following the 2022 sanctions and increasingly relied on aircraft cannibalisation for spare parts.

An American Airlines Boeing 777 carrying 287 passengers was forced to divert during a flight from Madrid to Dallas after six of its eight bathrooms stopped working.
With only two toilets still operational, the crew decided to make an urgent landing at New York’s JFK Airport several hours before reaching Dallas.
The aircraft was still carrying significant fuel, making it overweight for landing, while the crew declared a “pan-pan” urgency call to air traffic control.
The unusual incident shows how even a seemingly minor onboard problem can become a serious operational issue on long-haul flights.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed a firm order for 10 Airbus aircraft, including four A350-900s and six A321neos.

The A350s are planned for long-haul routes, while the A321neos will strengthen regional and medium-haul operations.

The deal marks Biman’s first Airbus aircraft order, ending its long-standing Boeing-dominated jet fleet.

Combined with its recent 25-aircraft Boeing orders, Biman now has 35 new aircraft in its acquisition pipeline.

A new Congressional Research Service assessment says 81 U.S. military aircraft and drones have been destroyed or damaged during operations against Iran.

The tally includes 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones, up to 12 F-15E Strike Eagles, seven KC-135 tankers and seven helicopters.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates replacing the lost equipment could cost between $1.9 billion and $3.3 billion.

CRS cautions that the figure could change as more information becomes available, and some damaged aircraft have already returned to service.
