It's almost comical how many great performers this year has been taking from us. When I heard of Patrick Stewart's passing, I didn't even pause to think of the moment that had the biggest impact on me. Ironically he doesn't have many lines in it, but it perfectly captures everything that is so meaningful and powerful about this character and his performances. It still might be my all time favorite Star Trek moment.

Picard's artificial heart gives out and he's given a second chance to go back and stop the fight that got him that heart to begin with. He does so but ends up losing all the lessons for life he acquired because of that moment and future ones like it. To sum up, he says he would rather die the man he was than live a life bereft of passion and imagination. He left us with a galaxy's worth of passion and imagination and I think we'll always be grateful for that.

RIP Patrick Stewart
