🪵🎸 THE PALLET RAT IS TAKING SHAPE! 🤘

From an old hardwood pallet to a Les Paul Junior-style guitar!

The Pallet Rat is coming along nicely. The timber has been stripped down, laminated, glued up and shaped, and we’ve now got the beginnings of a guitar body and neck!

I’m keeping the character of the reclaimed wood, including the different colours and grain patterns. That contrasting stripe running through the body is turning out even better than I’d hoped!

Still plenty to do — neck construction, routing, shaping, fretwork, finishing and eventually getting this thing making some noise! 🔥

The plan is a stripped-back, hot-rod-style Junior with a single P90 pickup.

Big question: Would you go for a high-gloss natural finish on the front with a satin back and neck, or keep the whole thing satin? 👇

Right then you lot! 🎸

You saw the timber being glued up yesterday, but there’s one question…

What pallet wood guitar should I build from it? 🤘

I’m torn between two designs:

🔥 Les Paul Junior – stripped back, single P90, proper rock machine!

⚡ Telecaster – classic shape with a rustic twist!

You lot decide! Which would you build?

🐀🎸 NEW GUITAR BUILD INCOMING… THE PALLET RAT! 🤘

Right then you lot, I’ve been back in the workshop starting another scratch guitar build!

This one’s going to be a little different…

I’ve taken an old hardwood pallet that originally carried Indian stone and decided to see if I can turn it into a proper electric guitar! 😂

The first job is done! Neck and body blanks glued up, using reclaimed pallet timber with oak and mahogany laminations running through both.

No expensive fancy tonewoods here, just some old timber, a few clamps and a slightly questionable idea! 🤣

I’ve got a plan for this one, and it’s going to have a bit of old-school, hot-rod attitude! 🔥

Whether it turns out brilliant or a complete disaster, you’ll get to see the whole journey on Discovering Six Strings!

Would you play a guitar made from an old pallet? 👇

🎸 Not bad for a guitar that started life in a box! 🤘

My SG kit build has had a serious makeover!

A metallic teal finish, aged brass pickguard, gold hardware, a Guyker Vibrola and a set of Tonerider Birmingham pickups, along with a complete electronics upgrade.

It’s certainly not your traditional SG, but that’s exactly why I love building and modifying guitars. You get to make something that’s completely your own!

Full overview and playthrough coming soon to Discovering Six Strings! 🎥

What do you reckon — would you rock this SG, or is it a bit too much gold? 😂🤘

🎸 PRS HAVE GONE MODERN! 🤘

Right then you lot, what do we think of these?!

PRS have just dropped their new Tekton range, and they’re certainly a bit different!

As someone who owns a few PRS guitars, I’m not entirely sure what to make of them yet. 😂

I wasn’t completely sold when I first saw them, but the more I look, the more curious I get!

I’d definitely love to get my hands on one and see how it feels and plays.

What do you lot reckon?

🔥 Love the new direction?
🤔 Not convinced?
🎸 Prefer the traditional PRS designs?

Let me know in the comments!

If you were starting guitar all over again, what would you buy first?

🎸 A budget electric guitar
🎸 A second-hand mid-range guitar
🎸 An acoustic guitar
🎸 The guitar you've always wanted

I'm interested to see what everyone thinks!

This was my first guitar
I would buy a second hand PRS SE either tremonti or Custom 24
