Replace the fuse, and the machine breaks again next week. Ask WHY five times instead 🔧
The 5 Whys technique became famous at Toyota through Taiichi Ohno. Here is his classic example:
Machine stopped → fuse blew → bearing overloaded → poor lubrication → oil pump not working → pump shaft worn by metal scrap.
The real fix: add a strainer to the pump. Changing the fuse only treats the symptom.
Tip: it is not always exactly five. Keep asking until you reach a cause you can actually fix.

Got a problem at work? Try DMAIC 🧭
It is the backbone of Six Sigma, and it works for almost any problem:
Define: what exactly is wrong?
Measure: how bad is it, in numbers?
Analyze: what is the root cause?
Improve: test and apply a fix.
Control: put checks in place so the problem does not come back.
Most people jump straight to step 4. The real value is in steps 2 and 3.

QA vs QC: same letters, different jobs 🔍
Quality Assurance (QA) looks at the process. Its goal is to prevent defects before they happen.
Quality Control (QC) looks at the product. Its goal is to catch defects before they reach the customer.
Example: writing a clear work instruction is QA. Checking the finished part with a gauge is QC.

Efficiency isn’t about working more; it’s about designing the system so you don’t have to. ⚙️
We often get lost in the "noise" of manufacturing and technology, but the real magic happens in the logic behind the process. Whether I'm building a discrete-event simulation or mapping out a new strategy for the channel, the goal is always the same:
Clarity.
This week is all about optimizing the workflow—turning complex data into something we can actually use to grow. 🚀
Which part of your "system" are you trying to optimize this month? Let’s talk shop in the comments! 👇
