Itanagar, June 11: Capital Police has rejected allegations surrounding the arrest of Shri Gumin Mize, stating that a detailed departmental enquiry found no evidence of misconduct by any Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel involved in the case.
According to an official statement issued by the Superintendent of Police (Capital), Shri Gumin Mize was arrested on May 20, 2026, at Police Station Itanagar in connection with Bihpuria Police Station Case No. 72/2026 registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Following the arrest, a series of allegations surfaced through social media posts, public briefings, and press statements. These claims alleged that the Officer-in-Charge of Police Station Itanagar had instructed Assam Police officials to assault Mize while he was in custody, that his vehicle had been transported to Bihpuria by Itanagar Police personnel, and that police had concealed his arms licence.
In response to the allegations, the Superintendent of Police ordered a comprehensive enquiry. The investigation involved witness examinations, analysis of CCTV footage, scrutiny of digital records, and verification of technical and documentary evidence.
The enquiry reportedly concluded that all allegations against the Officer-in-Charge of Police Station Itanagar, the police team involved in the arrest, and other Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel were baseless and unsupported by facts.
Police further stated that Shri Gumin Mize was personally briefed on the enquiry findings by the SP Capital on June 10. The supporting evidence was also presented to him, and he reportedly expressed satisfaction with the outcome. During the interaction, he was advised to ensure that any action against drugs or other unlawful activities is undertaken strictly within the framework of the law.
Meanwhile, Capital Police has raised concern over a series of threatening messages circulated on social media platforms. According to the Social Media Monitoring Team, several fake Facebook and WhatsApp accounts were used to post comments threatening to attack Police Station Itanagar, harm the Officer-in-Charge, burn down his residence, and cause bodily injury to him and his family members. Some messages allegedly contained direct and indirect death threats.
Police said such threats are unlawful and create a climate of fear and intimidation for law enforcement personnel and their families, who have no involvement in official police actions.
The department stated that the fake accounts involved have been identified and the individuals operating them have been traced. Legal action is being initiated against those responsible, with further details expected to be disclosed in due course.
Capital Police has appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and refrain from spreading unverified allegations, threats, or inflammatory content on social media. The department reiterated that any wrongdoing, whether committed by police personnel or members of the public, will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

ACF Announces Mass Vehicle Rally in Itanagar on June 18

Itanagar: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has announced a mass vehicle rally to be held in the state capital Itanagar on June 18, 2026, intensifying its ongoing opposition to the proposed implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978, and its draft rules.
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions surrounding the APFRA draft rules, which were recently finalized by the High-Powered Committee (HPC) and submitted to Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The committee has recommended several provisions, including timelines for reporting and filing complaints related to religious conversion, along with clarifications ensuring equal applicability of the law across all religions.
The ACF has been at the forefront of opposition, earlier serving a 15-day ultimatum to the state government demanding an immediate halt to the rule-making process. The forum has raised concerns over what it describes as inadequate consultation with stakeholders and potential implications for constitutional rights and religious freedom.

The upcoming rally is expected to draw participants from districts , adding further momentum to the ongoing public debate over the APFRA framework.

IFCSAP Calls for Timely Notification of APFRA Rules After Submission of High-Power Committee Report

Itanagar, June 8: The Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) has urged the State Government to promptly notify the rules under the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978 (APFRA), following the submission of the High-Power Committee’s report to the government.

In a press statement issued on Monday, IFCSAP confirmed that the committee report concerning the framing and implementation of rules under APFRA has been officially submitted to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The organisation expressed appreciation to both the State Government and the committee for conducting extensive consultations with stakeholders in what it described as a “democratic, transparent and participatory process.”

The society stated that with the consultative process now completed, the government is expected to examine the recommendations and notify the rules within a reasonable timeframe in accordance with legal and constitutional obligations. It further urged the authorities to act expeditiously, while ensuring compliance with the directives of the Gauhati High Court.
IFCSAP also said it would continue to monitor the progress of implementation and may pursue legal remedies if necessary to ensure proper enforcement of the court’s mandate and statutory framework.

On the contentious issue surrounding the legislation, the organisation clarified that the question of repealing the APFRA Act was not within the mandate of the High-Power Committee. It stated that any demand for repeal would need to be pursued through appropriate constitutional, legislative or judicial processes.

Reiterating its position, IFCSAP emphasised that the committee was limited to examining implementation mechanisms and drafting rules, not the validity of the parent law itself.

The society also rejected what it described as “misleading perceptions” that the framing of rules targets any particular religion or community, asserting that the process is a statutory requirement aimed at effective implementation of an existing law passed by the legislature.

It further stated that once notified, the rules would be a public document designed to ensure transparency and accountability. IFCSAP added that such rules are not permanent and may be amended or refined by the government depending on public interest and changing circumstances.

Warning against attempts to delay or obstruct the notification process, the organisation said that democratic consultation should operate through constitutional and legal processes rather than public pressure or confrontation.

In its concluding remarks, IFCSAP reiterated its commitment to constitutional values, indigenous rights, religious freedom, and peaceful coexistence among communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
The statement was issued from Chimpu, Itanagar, on June 8, 2026.
