Eclectic Outdoors

Just a local angler exploring the tough bites, hidden gems, and scenic waters across Southern Ontario.

From casting spoons at Bronte Harbour and bead drifting for trout, to setting up still lines along the Grand River, this channel is dedicated to the real, unedited experience of getting outside. No over-the-top hype, fake excitement, or pristine highlight reels—just honest bank and pier fishing sessions, real gear trials, and the peaceful ambiance of the water.

I focus on multi-species angling with a straightforward, conservation-minded philosophy. Whether breaking down technical terminal tackle setups like carp rigs, navigating an awful line backlash, or simply enjoying the natural soundscapes of the riverbank, it’s all about the raw reality of the chase.

No fluff. No noise. Just good vibes and days spent by the water.

Why don't I just make a dough bait?

That last jar of glitter got me thinking, there's got to be a way I can make my own floating dough bait.

Forget these mallows!

Corn syrup and puffed corn may be the answer here...

⚖️ Value vs. Commercial Bait

Considering a single jar of commercial floating trout dough typically runs anywhere from $7.00 to $10.00 at Canadian tackle shops, making the dark corn syrup batch at ~$1.25 means you are getting an entire log of plastic-free, highly buoyant bait for a fraction of the price.

I'm still paying for this!

With any luck, my bicycle will winterize peacfully.

A fish-finder setup for the Bronte pier.

Distance was a problem casting only a marshmallow so I have upped the weight.

The tomfoolery attached is supposed to keep it from tangling.

If I lose my tungsten sinker I am out $5. It is designed so that I might save the tomfoolery, should the weight get snagged.

15lb braid down to a 6lb monofilament leader, snelled Raven Specialist #6 hook.

Did I put that safety lead on backwards?

Rats.

I was more concerned with getting soft plastic baits out of my kit, but I never considered that I would find a Canadian company to order eco friendly hard lures from.

I thought my internet was slow, and that's why my videos took forever to upload.

Nope.

I was exporting in some high brow cinema codec like a film snob.

Absolutely textbook. How are they not hooking up on every floating weed in the river with that crankbait?

Can't disagree. A V-spinner is too good for weeds.
