Yumi is a New York City–based koto player and composer celebrated for blending traditional Japanese music with contemporary and cross-cultural influences. Her work spans solo performances and collaborations with ensembles such as the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan (UK), and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Her original compositions and performances have been featured at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, the National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian Museum. Yumi also works extensively with ballet, hip hop dance, film and multidisciplinary artists, continually expanding the expressive range and global presence of the koto.

Although I couldn't stay the whole time, I attended Bild Expo 2025 the other day. It was inspiring to be in a new environment and listen to some speakers. I hope it helps me improve my video-making skills in some ways!

I'll be sitting down with her for an interview to talk about her creative journey and how we've collaborated on photo shoots over the years.
