The Burrlington Northern, Seattle Region, is an HO model railroad set in 1973, based on the operations of the Burington Northern, MILW and UP railroads in the region from Seattle north to Bellingham and east to Skykomish, WA. It also includes the fictitious "White Pass & Rio Grande", a narrow gage road which represents the ultimate expansions and merger of the D&RGW and WP&Y to interchange with the BN at Everett, WA. This channel features video clips from both standard and narrow gage operations on the HO layout, as well as my N scale layout and many other people's layouts that I've visited. It also includes footage of the BNSF railroad taken around Seattle, and a few random music and other kinds of performances.

It's been said many times, but it's amazing what a difference it makes to apply just a little pan pastels to a model. Can you tell which one it is? :)

OK, now which station photo do you prefer, and why? You can see I'm needing help deciding which photos to submit for a possible magazine article.

Which view of Seattle’s BN Interbay (Balmer) yard interests you most, and why?

Here are some shots of logs on the layout, after all that recent talk about ore loads. Which picture appeals to you most, and why?

Photo caption contest: Please feel free to add your suggested caption to this photo of me and Dave at the last op session here, by leaving a comment. If you like someone else's suggestion, "like" it, and we'll see who wins the contest (and thanks to Brian Elchlepp for the photo!). My suggestion is: "Are we having 'much fun with trains' yet? :)

Here are two more shots of the OMI UP SW10 in operation on the layout this week, after the view from this week's "Part 161" video. Brian Elchlepp reworked the engine and took these photos, which he also posted on Facebook today. It is now based at Argo yard and will be doing the UP switch jobs in Harbor Island and South Seattle.

For those of you stumped by my recent quiz, here's a fuller view of the mystery trains. The train with the grey ex-CB&Q caboose is the "Sky Local" with empty hoppers and flats for the various industries in Skykomish, and the one with the green BN transfer caboose is the "Ballard Local". Both trains are ready to go, but don't have crews or engines on them yet. The second photo shows the car cards and waybills, indicating track 0 for the Ballard local and track 3 for the Sky local.

Quiz time: here's a random shot of Interbay yard in Seattle after yesterday's informal op session. Can you guess the name or purpose of the two trains with cabeese on them? (Hint: one is just arrived and one is ready to depart.)

After that last marathon "Part 159" video I posted (GP10's and SD40-2's), I went down to the layout, was looking around, and thought you'd enjoy some still photos of the main actors in their resting places (for now!).

Great news! We now have a resident BN GP-10, #1421, in the roster, thanks to Brian Elchlepp, seen here with his own #1422 and an older GP-9. The GP-10's were rebuilt from old GP-7's by the BN starting in 1973. This HO model is built from an old Atlas/Kato GP-7 that is a very smooth runner. Stay tuned to see these unusual engines in action on the layout in future videos!
