Thanks so much for the love on the latest North and South video! 🥰
You may have noticed it’s my longest yet! I know a lot of you enjoy those longer deep dives, which is amazing because that long-form support is really helpful for the channel!
The problem is, I usually spend a lot of time cutting down hours of footage for one video. Disappearing to focus on one edit isn’t great when YouTube increasingly rewards frequency.
YouTube's rules are making things a bit worrying like the new Shorts monetization update coming in February, which means I have to maintain 20 million Shorts views every 90 days just to keep ad revenue there (which just isn't happening for me!).
While it’s not a massive deal, every little bit of support helps a small channel like mine stay afloat. And I’ve been so surprised to see how much engagement the shorter clips get even when the longer essays they come from don't travel as far!
So, I’m trying something new that should be a win-win for all of us that I’ve seen has helped other creators who make long commentary videos!
Monday: Long-form Essay (when I have one!) or interviews.
Wednesday: Rumour Mill episode dropping every week! I'll let these podcasts run a bit longer for those who want to listen to the full episode and I don't have to stress about cutting down on so many of my points.
Friday: Highlight Video. A tighter 8–15 minute clip taken from one of the longer podcasts. This is perfect for those of you who just want to click on a video about one specific topic (like the ending of North and South!). It’s also a great way to bring back conversations that are suddenly timely again (like all the Robin Hood drama that is back in the conversation thanks to the new Andrew Garfield film) which is exactly why I'm dropping a clip on it this week!
Incorporating the Rumour Mill into the channel has been an amazing way to talk about period dramas more frequently with you guys, and this will keep the channel healthy and consistent without having to rush or over-edit our longer deep dives.
