To help you learn more about your audience watching on TVs, we’re introducing a new private metric in YouTube Analytics: Views (Co-viewed)!

Viewers watch over 1 billion hours of YouTube on TV screens every day. Since viewers often watch the big screen together with friends and family, Views (Co-viewed) is a new metric that better estimates the total number of people watching your videos.

For example, if a family of three watches your video together, it will be reflected as 3 Views (Co-viewed)!

Here is how this new data can help you:
📺 Understand your audience: Get a clearer, more accurate estimation of how many people are actually watching your videos.
🤝 Pitch your value to brands: You can use this official co-viewing data in your sponsorship pitches to showcase the true size of your reach.

Starting August 31, you can find your Views (Co-viewed) data in the Advanced Mode of YouTube Analytics. Check out our Help Center for all the details: support.google.com/youtube/answer/9314416

A few quick notes:
-This is a private metric available exclusively in YouTube Analytics. Your public view counts on the Watch Page will stay exactly the same.
-This does not count towards or impact your AdSense payouts, revenue share, or YPP eligibility.
-Views (Co-viewed) require up to 48 hours to process. Because of this 2-day delay, any date range that includes the last 48 hours (such as "Last 28 days" or "This month") will make your Views (Co-viewed) appear lower. For an accurate comparison, select a custom date range that excludes the last two days (for example, choose "August 1–17" rather than rolling views).

The new Channel Memberships page is now live globally to help you grow your community and turn casual viewers into superfans! Instead of relying solely on your own viewers clicking the ‘Join’ button, this personalized hub acts as a 24/7 community storefront for creators, matching your channel memberships and members-only content with viewers actively looking for deeper connections on topics they love.

Here’s how it works for your channel:
- Tailored recommendations: Content shelves are personalized based on watch history, showcasing channels to viewers who are most likely to join.
- Acquisition-focused: To prioritize finding you new members, the "For You" and "Discover" sections automatically hide your channel from viewers who are already active members of your community.
- Prioritizing active creators: To remain eligible for these discovery shelves, simply stay active by consistently posting members-only content and engaging with your audience. Different creators are rotated through these shelves, so there is always a chance to be featured in the future.

The page is available globally across Android, iOS, web, and mobile web. More info here: support.google.com/youtube/answer/17404388

Creators! Counting views on YouTube is getting an update to provide a consistent standard across the platform. Last year, we updated how we count views for Shorts to align with industry standards. Starting August 24, 2026, we’re aligning all other video formats to this same methodology, meaning a view will count from the very first frame. This updated standard will apply globally to long-form (VOD), Shorts, and live streams, with no minimum watch time. Here’s what this change means for you:

-Deeper metrics are still here: We’re keeping our original view metric, called “Engaged views,” in YouTube Analytics > Advanced Mode so you can see how many viewers choose to continue watching your video.
-No impact on earnings: This update won’t impact your revenue or YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility.

We hope this unified benchmark gives you a clearer picture of your overall exposure, allowing you to confidently showcase your true scale and value to brand partners! Check out our Help Center article to learn more: bit.ly/4zdFYHf

Creators: We’re updating terms for the YouTube Partner Program and want you to review and accept them in Studio by Jan 31, 2027. Aligning the program with how viewers watch today ensures YouTube remains a sustainable place for you to upload and earn money from your content. We expect to pay even more to creators in 2027 than we did in 2026.

Here is a quick look at what is changing:

📝 Expanding Premium Lite: We are expanding Premium Lite to all countries where Premium is available. Premium Lite is a new, lower-priced YouTube Premium membership that offers fewer interruptions so viewers can watch most YouTube and YouTube Kids videos ad-free, offline, and in the background. For creators in YPP, this means more YouTube Premium members may engage with your content and actively contribute to your subscriptions earnings.

🌟Evolving the Shorts payout model and opportunties: To help ensure creators have more meaningful ways to earn from Shorts, especially those earlier in their journey, we are adapting the way the Shorts Creator Pool is distributed, and are launching new incentive programs focused on new areas.

Starting Feb 1, 2027, to earn each month from the Shorts Creator Pool, creators will now need to maintain 10M qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days. For creators in earlier stages who may fall below the 10M views mark, you’ll benefit from new targeted incentive programs designed to support diverse revenue streams and the great Shorts that drive your business. These include bonuses for YouTube Shopping, incentives for brand deals, and earnings boosts for cultural trend activations. We will share specific criteria and how to opt in soon.

🎯 Updating YPP eligibility for our ad & Premium revenue share program: We’re adjusting the eligibility thresholds to earn from ads and YouTube Premium revenue for new creators to 8,000 watch hours in the last 365 days or 20M Shorts views in the last 90 days. For creators already in YPP monetizing with ads and Premium, this change does not impact you.

To continue earning from these features, make sure to review and accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio by Jan. 31, 2027. Check out our full forum post for all the details: support.google.com/youtube/thread/451804019

Custom Shorts thumbnails and thumbnail generation in Ask Studio for long-form videos are officially rolling out on desktop!

⭐ Here’s what’s happening with Shorts thumbnails:
We’ve heard how much you want more creative control over your Shorts thumbnails. We’re rolling out the capability for you to upload your own personalized 9x16 image to represent your Shorts thumbnail! Non-9x16 images will be automatically cropped, so we recommend uploading your Shorts thumbnails in a 9x16 vertical format and not putting key elements in the top and bottom parts of the thumbnail. You still have the option to pick a frame from your video as well!

How it works (similar to long-form video):
1. Go to YouTube Studio on your computer, click Content, and select your Shorts tab
2. Click the Details pencil icon on the Short you want to edit
3. Select Thumbnail to upload your file and click Save

This feature is starting to roll out now for all creators in the YouTube Partner Program. If you aren't in YPP, hang tight—we're working on expanding this feature to all creators later this year! Learn more about custom Shorts thumbnails here: www.youtube.com/shorts/Zgyy7_...

⭐ Here’s what’s happening with long-form thumbnails:
We’re introducing custom thumbnail generation directly into Ask Studio on desktop to help make the design process easier for your long-form videos. Ask Studio analyzes your video’s specific themes and transcript to turn your core concept into tailored visual concepts. From there, you can prompt Ask Studio to adjust and edit elements of your thumbnail like colors and layout.

How it works:
1. Open Ask Studio.
2. Enter a prompt like "Create a thumbnail concept for this video".
3. Use follow-up chat prompts to adjust colors, layout, or style until the design matches your vision.

Thumbnail generation is currently only available for long-form videos. Learn more about thumbnail generation here: bit.ly/4fsp1zC

We can’t wait to see what thumbnails you come up with! Let us know what you think of these updates in the comments below. 🥳

New Communities updates—including Community-only posts, the ability for viewers to quote creator posts, Communities on YouTube Music, and easier moderation tools—are officially here! Since we introduced Communities last year, we’ve loved seeing you all build deeper bonds and spark new conversations. We’re focused on making Communities easier to manage for creators and more accessible for fans. Here's a snapshot of what’s rolling out now:

🚀 What's new for creators:

- Community-only posts: Share updates exclusively with your Community by creating a new post from the Community page via the main app on mobile and desktop–these stay tucked within your Community context, and won't display on your standard public Posts tab.
- More moderation options in Studio: Pin posts, reply to viewers, and manage your space at scale by multi-selecting viewer posts to approve, delete, or report them all at once inside YouTube Studio.
- Quick mod assignments and alerts: Use the three-dot menu on Community posts in the main app to instantly add a moderator or approved user–and they'll get a notification and a custom profile badge.

👥 What's new for fans:

- Quote creator posts: React to a creator's post by quoting it directly into a new post on the creator’s Community to start a discussion with other fans
- New ways to discover and access Communities: Jump straight into a Community feed from more places across YouTube–including your mobile Search results and a new Spotlight Card directly inside the YouTube Music mobile app.
- New notifications: Get alerts when a creator interacts with your updates, like when they pin your post or give it a creator heart.

Whether you’re a creator sharing your own exclusive updates or a fan looking to join the conversation–head over to your favorite channel pages with a Community today and start connecting! Learn more about Communities in our Help Center: goo.gle/4gdpiIU
