I used to see this place only in books.

Back when I was in elementary school, most of the pictures were almost black and white. But when I saw it in an encyclopedia with colored photos, I could already see how beautiful this place was.

Back then, I only knew it through pictures and stories. But now, I’m finally here in person, and it’s even more beautiful.

This place is popularly known as Pagsanjan Falls. The name came from the traditional route to the falls, which starts in the town of Pagsanjan, where visitors travel upriver by boat through the famous “Shooting the Rapids” adventure.

But here’s the interesting part: the falls itself is actually located within the municipality of Cavinti, Laguna.

That’s why the local government of Cavinti has promoted the name Cavinti Falls and even passed a resolution requesting that it be recognized as the official name. However, Pagsanjan Falls remains the widely recognized name and is still used by national tourism sources.

Today, you can reach the falls from the Cavinti side through the trail and steep metal stairs. It’s a challenging descent, but it gives you a completely different kind of adventure.

So whether you call it Pagsanjan Falls, Cavinti Falls, or Magdapio Falls, we’re talking about the same famous waterfall, one that I used to see only in the pages of a book, and now, I’m finally standing right here in front of it.
