It started with a call to Seattle PD. A young woman had found a large suitcase with a foul odor on the shores of Alki Beach. The investigation uncovered one of the most disturbing cases in Seattle's recent history, a house of horrors in Burien and a former tech pro with a chilling explanation.

I've included a substantial portion of the suspect's NEWLY RELEASED interrogation, and it follows the classic arc, baseline gathering in the first half, then a confrontation where detectives don't hold back. It quickly becomes clear the suspect is comfortable chatting because he thinks he can talk his way out of anything.

What did detectives know walking into that room? What did he tell them? And how did they read his answers? That's what we unpack in this episode.

After three years, the Chad Doerman interrogation footage has finally been released, and The Crime Atlas is one of the first channels to receive it.

I'm dropping this early for you. You know the name. It's a chilling look inside the mind of a man who executed his three sons, a triple filicide.

Doerman never publicly explained his motive, and for years there was nothing but speculation. This interrogation finally sheds light on his reasoning.

I came across an Instagram post from a rescue organization seeking help for a severely malnourished puppy with a large open wound on one of her front legs. She needs veterinary care immediately, but the rescue says they simply don't have the funds to take her in right now because they're still waiting on adoption fees from several pending adoptions.

I know 455,771 subscribers won't see this post, and I'm not asking everyone to donate.

I'm only speaking to the dog lovers in this community who are both willing and able to help.

If just a small fraction of us gave even $5, it could be enough to get this puppy the medical care she desperately needs and give her a chance at a life she otherwise may not have.

This is one of the more heartbreaking cases I've come across in a while. A hardworking family's life is turned completely upside down by a bitter and ugly marital dispute. The bodycam footage is gripping, and the interrogation video is really something to see. More than anything, though, it's a deeply human story.

We also tried a couple new things with this one:

1. Interweaving court footage with the interrogation. I ran an early version past a small focus group, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I'm excited to hear what you all think.

2. Bringing back the intro monologue. It's only about a minute long, but I realized I missed speaking directly to you before the story begins. These videos are made by a real person, and I genuinely enjoy connecting with our community.

Behind the scenes, this was one of the most challenging productions I've worked on. Tracking down the court records wasn't easy, there was a lot of profanity that needed careful editing, and we made the decision not to show the faces of several witnesses. They're young adults who were never charged or implicated in any crime, and protecting their privacy felt like the right thing to do.
