80th Independence Day Celebrations at St. Joseph’s General Hospital

St. Joseph’s General Hospital celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. The celebration was a meaningful occasion for the hospital family to remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and to reflect on the responsibilities that come with freedom.

The programme commenced with an invocation prayer led by Sr. Asritha, seeking God’s blessings upon our nation, its people, and all those gathered for the celebration.

Sr. Jyothi delivered the Welcome Address, warmly welcoming the Chief Guest, Hospital Director, Sisters, doctors, nurses, and all members of the hospital family. She expressed her joy in coming together to celebrate the spirit of independence and patriotism.

This was followed by Sr. Binitha introducing the Chief Guest, Dr. Raghava Rao B, Chief Consultant Pulmonologist at St. Joseph’s General Hospital. She highlighted his professional contribution and his valuable association with the hospital.

The national flag was then proudly hoisted by our esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Raghava Rao B, marking the central moment of the Independence Day celebrations. The flag-hoisting ceremony filled the gathering with a deep sense of patriotism and pride in our nation.

Adding an interactive element to the celebrations, Dr. Raghava Rao B conducted an engaging quiz on Indian freedom fighters. His questions encouraged the staff to recall the lives, contributions, courage, and sacrifices of the great personalities who fought for India’s independence. The quiz created an atmosphere of enthusiasm while reminding everyone of the rich history behind the freedom we enjoy today.

The Hospital Director, Sr. Gladys Inviolata, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking message on the true meaning of freedom. She encouraged everyone to look within themselves and reflect on whether we are truly experiencing and exercising freedom in the right spirit. She emphasized that freedom should not remain merely a celebration or a historical achievement, but should be reflected in our daily conduct, responsibilities, relationships, teamwork, and service to patients.

Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) – July Antenatal Health Camp

St. Joseph’s General Hospital, Guntur, in collaboration with Sangadigunta Urban PHC, successfully conducted the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA)

During the camp, 15 high-risk antenatal mothers received comprehensive prenatal check-ups and expert medical guidance to promote a healthy pregnancy and safe childbirth.

Our team of doctors and healthcare professionals provided counseling on:

✨ Personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices
✨ Safe exercises during pregnancy

International Yoga Day – 21 June 2026

St. Joseph’s General Hospital, Guntur, observed International Yoga Day on 21 June 2026 with a yoga session held in the OPD Basement of the hospital. The programme was conducted by Mr. Sarath, a full-time yoga volunteer from Isha Foundation, Coimbatore, along with a 2 fellow instructors.

The session witnessed active participation from DNB students, nursing staff, departmental employees, JMJ Sisters, and members of the public. Participants engaged in various yoga practices and breathing exercises aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle.

The programme highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for overall health and wellness. Participants appreciated the opportunity to come together and celebrate International Yoga Day through mindful practice and community participation.

St. Joseph’s General Hospital DNB Student Dr. Sumaiya Barveen M M honoured with NBEMS President’s Gold Medal in Pediatrics at the 23rd NBEMS Convocation, New Delhi.

We are immensely proud to share that Dr. SUMAIYA BARVEEN M M (Roll Number: 25163110270) from St. Joseph’s General Hospital has been awarded the prestigious NBEMS President’s Gold Medal in Pediatrics for June 2025.

This honor was conferred during the 23rd Convocation of NBEMS, conducted at Vigyan Bhawan on May 23, 2026.

The ceremony was presided over by Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda. During this grand occasion, 26,396 medical professionals were awarded their degrees, and 137 toppers from across the country received gold medals. We are delighted that our student, Dr. Sumaiya Barveen M M, is among these 137 achievers.

Camp Activities and Outcomes

Following the educational talks, a health camp was successfully conducted:
• Screening: All attending students underwent basic weight and height checks (Anthropometric measurements).
• Clinical Consultations: A large number of students utilized the camp for individual check-ups regarding their specific health complaints.
• Response: Students were seen, counselled, and advised appropriate treatment for their conditions. This demonstrated a high level of engagement and addressed the immediate health needs of the participants.
