State Feared Escape Plan As Sibiya Was Transferred To Pretoria

The State raised concerns about a possible escape plot involving suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya, resulting in his transfer from Johannesburg to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria.

Sibiya, 59, was arrested at a strip club in Rivonia on Monday night. He appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday, facing charges including r*pe, s**xual grooming of a child and trafficking in persons.

Prosecutors told the court they had intelligence suggesting Sibiya could escape if held at a Johannesburg prison. The defence opposed the transfer, but the court ordered that he remain at Kgosi Mampuru until his formal bail application on 29 September.

The NPA also alleges that witnesses have been threatened and intimidated. Prosecutors said a threatening voice note was sent to a witness at around 14:00 today, Tuesday, while Sibiya was in court.

NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago further claimed that Sibiya could be working with a “cabal” involved in the alleged intimidation of witnesses.

Sibiya has not pleaded to the charges, and the allegations have not been tested in court.

The statement further clarified that the initial set of devices previously taken by the authorities has not yet been returned.

While the underlying reasons for the Johannesburg High Court warrant remain unconfirmed, the development is expected to draw heavy political and public scrutiny given Mchunu's high-profile government portfolio.

Mchunu's office indicated that he will formally address these ongoing developments, alongside other matters concerning his name, in the coming weeks.

Maboe Out Of Bafana After Chiefs Ankle Twist- Moremi Replaces Him

Pitso Mosimane has lost his only Kaizer Chiefs player in Bafana Bafana before a ball is kicked.

Lebohang Maboe has been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana camp in Johannesburg after twisting his ankle for Amakhosi this past weekend.

Bafana team doctor Dr Tshepo Molobi said the midfielder arrived on Sunday night already carrying the injury. Scans on Monday ended the debate.

“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” Molobi said.

Mosimane, who had hoped Maboe could recover, has already moved. A call-up letter has gone to Orlando Pirates for Tshepang Moremi.

Bafana open their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.

They will then travel to Egypt where they will play Eritrea in another qualifier, and then end the camp with a friendly against the Pharaohs on October 4.

Dr Maumela Defends Arrested Lieutenant General

Controversial Bishop Dr Azwihangwi Maumela has lashed out at the authorities following the dramatic arrest of a senior South African Police Service (SAPS) Lieutenant General, calling the allegations fabricated and describing the enforcement team's actions as "witchcraft".

The 59-year-old high-ranking police official was taken into custody at an establishment in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Monday night.

The arrest, executed by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT), is related to serious s**xual offence allegations, including the sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl and the r**pe of an 18-year-old woman.
Speaking to journalists outside the Randburg Magistrate's Court, Dr Maumela who was dining with the General at the time, strongly rejected claims that they were at the venue for illicit entertainment.

He clarified that they were simply there for food during a birthday celebration, explicitly dismissing any narratives linking them to watching unclothed dancers.

"We were just there to eat. We did not go there to look at women dancing n*ked," Maumela stated defensively.

He added that the General was so relaxed during the dinner that he initially thought the arriving police officers were playing a practical joke.

Maumela further alleged that the arrest is part of a broader, orchestrated political plot tied to internal SAPS power dynamics.

According to him, the charges are a targeted attempt to derail his friend ahead of an upcoming succession battle for the next National Police Commissioner.

Warning of political retaliation, Maumela stated that those behind the arrest are acting like "witches" out to destroy the General's career.

SAPS Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has welcomed the arrest, reiterating that no individual, regardless of rank or seniority, is above the law.

Moloto faces additional charges as court awaits DPP direction

Popular Limpopo anti-drug activist and rehabilitation centre owner Tsebe Philemon Moloto, popularly known as "Mr Moloto", is facing additional charges following his appearance in the Polokwane Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday.

Moloto, the co-founder of the Limpopo Anti-Drug, Gangsterism and Crime (LADGAC) rehabilitation centre, was initially facing two counts of malicious damage to property arising from separate incidents in Polokwane.

The State has now added further charges, including five counts of attempted murder, two counts of malicious damage to property and two further counts relating to alleged trespassing and the Toyota Hilux double cab.

This brings the number of charges listed in the latest development to nine additional counts.

The matter has been postponed to 30 October 2026 to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to provide a direction on which court should hear the case.

SIU And Hawks Raid PSiRA Centurion Offices Over Missing Records in R130m Tender Probe

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), alongside the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks), executed a major search and seizure raid at the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) head offices in Centurion.

The operation targets critical missing documentation linked to a controversial R130 million training tender.

The raid follows Proclamation 316 of 2026, signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which authorised the SIU to investigate allegations of maladministration, fraud, and financial loss.

The joint investigation with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) covers training contracts meant to benefit 7,071 learners across South Africa.

According to SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho, the unit resorted to a search warrant after PSiRA only partially complied with initial requests for information, completely omitting a full year's worth of crucial data.

"The SIU uses search and seizure as a last resort to obtain information to assist with an investigation, after failing to secure full cooperation through cordial engagement," Makgotho stated.

The probe focuses on three main training programmes initiated in 2019 that allegedly left over 6,000 unemployed individuals without valid qualifications or certificates, PSiRA Grade E to C Training and End-User Computing.

Investigators seized physical documents as well as electronic devices, including cellphones and laptops, to gather evidence.

Any evidence pointing to criminal activities will be handed directly to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for immediate prosecution.
