Duke is back 🏆✊

The Duke of Gloucester Cup is an annual competition to test the warfighting skills of infantry soldiers from the Australian Army's Royal Australian Regiment.

This year, the Duke of Gloucester Cup was held at 📍 Tully Training Area and the Townsville Field Training Area, Qld.

Competitors are tested individually and as part of a team across a range of skills under arduous conditions, including:

Maritime teamwork in action 🌊

The Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Perth conducted a replenishment at sea with the US Navy's Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln, while attached to Carrier Strike Group 3 in the 📍 South China Sea.

These deployments support long-term security and prosperity by preserving a rules-based order, enhancing cooperation and developing capability.

Drivers adapt on the roads less travelled

From snow-covered mountain roads to rugged bush tracks, members of 8th Operational Support Unit’s 15th Support Squadron tested their skills in challenging terrain during Exercise Arachnid Trek.

Conducted in the alpine highlands of Victoria, the annual activity challenged drivers to navigate narrow rural passes, dense bushland, muddy terrain and snow-covered roads while living and operating above the tree line in harsh alpine conditions.

Personnel operated a mix of Rheinmetall 40M heavy vehicles and Mercedes G-Wagons, providing experienced and newly qualified drivers with opportunities to build confidence and experience behind the wheel.

The varied routes required drivers to negotiate steep gradients, restricted tracks and changing surface conditions.

Deterring from a distance

In July, a P-8A Poseidon and personnel from 92 Wing deployed on Exercise Medusa Fury to Hawaii to conduct testing of the AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM).

This activity broadened the ADF’s maritime strike options, transitioned LRASM employment beyond the F/A-18F Super Hornet and enhanced the reach and flexibility of Australia’s air and maritime integration.

The LRASM is an air-launched precision-guided semi-autonomous missile designed to destroy high-value, well-defended maritime targets at ranges in excess of 370km.

It is a significant upgrade over other maritime strike weapons in Air Force’s inventory by allowing the targeting of sophisticated maritime targets at significantly longer range.

The expansion of the ADF’s long-range strike capabilities – as identified in the NDS – further enhances Defence’s ability to deliver deterrence through denial as an integrated, focused force.

The Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Choules and her ship’s company of 160 sailors and officers have returned to Fleet Base East following a deployment across the Indo-Pacific.
