This year I’m breaking it into 5 shorter days, we’ll be streaming Sep 10th-14th on Twitch and Youtube to raise money for MBA’s amazing ocean conservation work!
As always we’ll be doing an art contest and revealing the submissions on the final day, feel free to submit anything you want, could be art or a sculpture or a song or a fart, etc etc. This year we’re celebrating ALL animals in the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so this is your big opportunity to show your love for bone worms or mollusks or seals or puffins or whatever other sea life you're into you little freak. Obviously we’ll still have a lot of special focus for the sea otters and Rosa, they’re still our pride and joy, but we’ll be spreading love to the WHOLE marine ecosystem this time around, there’s some dude who’s super hyped about eels and this is his big moment

Hello! Some thoughts about Ai. I did a sponsored stream today for an Audible show where a Hollywood screenwriter (Scott Z Burns) explores how Ai is going to affect the screenwriting business and Hollywood more broadly. I was excited about this because I believe nuanced conversations about Ai are super important - as Scott's colleagues point out, Ai is coming regardless of whether we like it or not, and there is a TON of uncertainty and worry about how it will affect Hollywood and creatives. In the show Scott explores "collaborating" with an Ai, and while he finds positives he is very honest about the *many* downsides and concerns. A huge part of the show is interviewing people across the industry, several of whom are like "I hate Ai and I am super worried about it", the show is more pessimistic as a whole imo. For me, conversations like this are vital right now. I don't know how this will play out, but I want to hear from actual creative professionals, I want to hear the good AND the bad, I want to understand how this is affecting people on a human level. As easy as it is to just say "fuck Ai" I think the truth is way more in the middle.
So just to recap: I do not think Ai should replace screenwriters. Scott certainly does not think that. There are a lot of unethical uses of Ai in the world right now, which is why I don't use Ai art or Ai music and will not until there's some kind of ethical arrangement with artists. Today's stream was about replicating the exact writing process that Scott does in his show, then talking with Scott about how his thinking on Hollywood/Ai changed as a result of the show. Scott is a super super smart and thoughtful dude, I loved getting to chat with him, and he is very mixed about the whole thing, as he discusses in the stream.
Stepping back a bit, my view on Ai is shifting over time. I would describe 2023 and 2024 as me being VERY optimistic about Ai, but this year my concerns have been growing substantially. I'd still describe myself as an Ai optimist, I still believe Ai will improve most peoples lives, but I'm becoming increasingly concerned that our society isn't going to handle the challenges of Ai effectively and thus might cause a lot more harm than I'd hoped. I can't sit here and pretend to know the answers but truthfully the broader implications have been getting a lot scarier in my mind.
I totally understand if you're still upset at the sponsored stream, but I wanted to at least explain my thinking. For my own streams going forward, I still think there's a ton of cool Ai potential that feels ethical and worthwhile, but everyone (myself included) is getting a little tired of it, hence why there's been way way less of it in the last 15 or so streams. But it's shitty timing because we're also just now finishing up like 6 Ai videos from the last 12 months that I need to post at some point, so I have this giant deluge of Ai content ready to be posted at basically the worst possible time. I'll most likely intersperse these with non-Ai videos in the short-term, and I'm going to try to keep Ai-prominent content to 1/3rd or less of videos during the rest of this year at least, but if you have any thoughts/concerns around this I'd genuinely like to hear them. It's been pretty weird navigating all this since it's all changing so quickly.

As I've been learning over the past 6 months especially these topics are super complex, people are justifiably super passionate about them, and I'm doing my best to adjust as things evolve. Hopefully at the end of the day can keep making goofy shit that brings some enjoyment to people, and I sincerely appreciate you being understanding as I figure things out along the way
Well I just spent like 6 hours reading comments lol. I posted that 2nd channel video on a whim and honestly it’s been unreal seeing the amount of kind messages people sent across youtube and kudoboard and emails and discord messages. This was genuinely insane and super super meaningful and I never ever expected this amount of support from just venting about my feelings. Sincerely, thank you very much, I was not expecting that at all and it means a ton, it really reaffirms the values that are most important to me.
Somewhat ironically, reading all the nice comments has made me farther behind on work lmao. But to be clear, I still want to keep making things - I’ll probably be streaming less for the short-term (like closer to only once a week) as I keep sorting stuff out and get over some short-term burnout, but I don’t plan on stopping anything soon. I’ll probably give some updates though as I get a better handle on how to manage all this stuff
Also just as a side note: I’ve been feeling like I want to tone down the amount of Ai content on Twitch & Youtube, obviously not everyone feels this way but I think I’ve leaned on Ai a little bit too much over the past year as the key source of content and ideas. So I’m going to try to feature Ai a little bit less in streams for the rest of 2025. I still have a billion funny Ai ideas that we’ll do but I want it be a little less prominent, or at the very least make sure I’m making Ai content in fresh ways rather than just another Ai character that yells during a challenge. That being said, we’re finishing up a bunch of youtube videos from the past year which are centered around AI, so there will still be a lot of Ai-centric youtube videos posted for a bit, but I did want to give a heads up about how I’m currently thinking about the balance of content. Will maybe shoot to have less than 50% of streams/videos include Ai? Maybe 1/3rd or so? I’m not sure, we’ll wing it fuck we ball
