Fan of old-school blobbers? Dungeon crawlers from the '80s? Adventure games from the '90s? Heroes of the Seven Islands got them all + it's hand-drawn.

I planned to publish the next video this Sunday, but life got in the way. A small water elemental was growing in a wall between a bathroom and a bedroom, so I had to completely empty the bedroom for the workers coming tomorrow. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and the problem will be solved in a single day. Fingers crossed.

Youtube is testing, in the US only for now, a new feature that lets you describe what you want to see in your home feed.

From a few tests, it seems pretty accurate. It's different from Search, and it appears more precise and up to the point, without aggressively proposing shorts or adjacent-niche videos.

If it holds up, could be a very nice upgrade since now my homepage is a mess of people giving advice on Youtube, life, physical and mental health and whatnot.

And it's mostly just clickbait. They have very little data or background to back their claims. Furthermore, I watch a video on Youtube upgrades or on fitness every once in a while, while I constantly watch CRPG videos. And those almost never shows up.

More precision in what we want to see could benefit us all, viewers and creators alike.

So, Youtube is testing out an "AI Overview" search bar. It will feed you a summary on the topic you requested, using videos (both long forms and shorts) as sources.

This will probably shrink views substantially. A lot of views come from viewers watching the first 30s or so of a video, then moving on. They're only interested in an intro, an overview, and never go deeper. This is the public that will most likely be super-interested in an AI summary instead of watching the content. It won't be the end of content creation, but I believe it will almost kill the short videos (quick updates, highlights and so on). The answer is probably to double down on super deep content, catering to viewers who search for deep dives and quality, not fast overviews of something.

This morning I was still a little nervous due to the last video needing 8 renders due to technical difficulties, so I went walking among nature. The green, the sun, the physical extertion relaxed me.

I feel the channel is not growing as it could.

And that's most likely on me.

When Youtube understood that I was producing videos, it flooded me with "Youtube gurus" content, and I gladly watched them with the intention of increasing my skills. That's what a professional do, what I've been trained to do in my life: hone your skillset every single day.

The problem is that in the long run these "experts" say everything and nothing at the same time. I feel pulled in a thousand directions, and that becomes not counsel anymore, but chaos. In truth, when it comes to Youtube, I cannot separate a good advice from a snake oil salesman's product.

I feel those scattered "teachings" produced doubt in myself, instead of betterment. And it somewhat percolated in my videos, something the viewer can feel.

One of my most successful videos is the TES: Arena retrospective, a video I didn't engineer that much. I simply played that old, janky game, with genuine interest in seeing how the series started. I ended up liking it. And then I simply wrote a report, a sort of debriefing on it, recorded it, edited it, and shared it. And it was well appreciated.

According to the gurus, a video won't work if you don't have a thesis to prove, if you don't rely on tricks for retention times, if you don't create a question or some sort of contrast to hook the viewer. May I call BS on all that?

When I don't have data to know which option is the best one, I can only follow my istinct. And my istinct tells me to flush all this crap in the toilet and just do what I would naturally do. So I'm going to do it.

In a day and age where everything is artificially created, maybe being authentic will work. I don't know, but at least I'll just be myself.

Just wanted to share a thought with you. I appreciate you for reading. I haven't even proofread this post, so it's probably going to be imperfect. But at least it would be me.

Take care of yourselves.

This is going to take some time.

Four pages, I'm only through half of them. They're subject to reorganizing and changes too.
