Life has gotten a little… interesting here at the dog rescue lately.
Our full-time shelter manager had to leave suddenly because of a family emergency. Another part-time employee was injured, and after all of my own little adventures with injuries, I'm currently operating at about 25% of my normal speed and energy level.
And just to keep things interesting, our solar system has decided to become a little temperamental. The power comes and goes during the day, then shuts off completely around 10pm and doesn't come back until about 7:30am.
Normally, that wouldn't be a huge deal. But when you're living in the Yucatán heat and the only thing making sleep remotely possible is a fan blowing directly in your face, it becomes a bit of a problem.
So yes… I'm tired. I'm hot. I'm sleep deprived. And I may or may not be a little grumpy. But I'm trying to take things one day at a time, do what I can, and let the rest go. ❤️

First watermelon of the season here at the rescue! 🍉☀️
This thing was HUGE! 😂 After a long day of wrangling dogs in the hot sun, we sat down together and demolished it.
I also made Carlota de Limón for the first time, and it was the perfect refreshing treat to end the day.
Just another day at the rescue… and one I’ll definitely remember. ❤️🐾

Feeling a little extra grateful today. ❤️
I was recently invited to be a guest on Live By Design: Mexico Edition to talk about my journey — leaving the U.S., moving to Mexico, and creating a different kind of life after 50.
It was such a fun conversation, but it also gave me a chance to stop and think about just how much my life has changed over the past year. There were definitely some scary and uncertain moments along the way, but here I am… actually living the life I spent so many years dreaming about.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that have come my way, the people I've met along this journey, and for all of you who have been following along. It means more than you know. 🥰
If you missed the interview, I'll leave the link(s) below. And thank you for being here!

I'm sitting here tonight feeling really grateful. ❤️
A few months ago, I was still in the U.S. trying to figure out how I was going to make this whole move to Mexico happen. Now I'm actually here… living it.
Has everything gone perfectly? Hahaha...most definitely not!
But I'm incredibly grateful for new friendships, the animals that I get to love and care for and the chance to build a life that feels more like mine.

Colombia, my heart is with you. ❤️🥲
I was born and raised in Colombia, and no matter where life takes me, it will always be home.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by this devastating earthquake, especially those who have lost loved ones, homes, and a sense of safety.
Sending so much love to my beautiful Colombia and to everyone helping their neighbors through this difficult time.
Colombia, estamos con ustedes.

This move wasn't about just one thing. ❤️
I've been thinking about leaving the USA for more than 20 years, and now that I'm actually here in Mexico, I've been reflecting a lot on what finally made me take the leap.
So, I sat down and talked about it—completely unscripted. I actually started filming while sitting in the truck waiting for a foster dog to arrive, then finished it later that day...covered in sweat and dirt and ready for a shower. 😂
Definitely not my usual polished video, but honestly? I loved making it.
There were a lot of reasons I left, and some of them may surprise you.

¡Feliz Cumpleaños a mí! 🥳
Today I turn 52.
This morning wasn't spent at a fancy brunch or opening presents. Instead, I hopped in the farm truck, took the week's garbage to the dump, wandered through the little town of Tekit, picked up fresh bread, stopped by the pharmacy, browsed the local mercados, and admired the colorful vegetable market on the way home.
A year ago, I could never have imagined I'd be spending my birthday in a small Mexican town, surrounded by kind people, learning a new way of life.
Today, I'm simply grateful.
Grateful for the courage to start over.
Grateful for this adventure.
Grateful to be exactly where I am, in this moment.
Here's to 52... and wherever this journey leads next. ❤️

🌎 Happy International Friendship Day! ❤️
One of the greatest gifts of travel isn't just seeing new places—it's meeting incredible people.
Last week I joined a meetup here in Mérida, Mexico and around the table were people from all over the world. Different countries. Different backgrounds. Different life stories. Yet we shared great conversations, lots of laughter, and a reminder that we're often far more alike than we are different.
Travel has a wonderful way of turning strangers into friends.
