35 years ago I witnessed a monumental event. Clash of the Titans rolled through Charleston, S.C. on Thursday July 11, 1991. Being a huge fan of these bands there was no way I was going to miss this one. I had to travel a few hundred miles to attend the show which took place at King Street Palace. Alice in Chains opened the show. Death Angel, who were originally slated to open the tour had to back out because of they near fatal bus accident just weeks prior.
Alice in Chains held their own in front of the rowdy thrash crowd and gained many new fans. Next up was Megadeth with the now classic lineup of Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman & Menza. Absoulte fire!!! Supporting the thrash masterpiece Rust in Peace, Megadeth did not disappoint. Next up...SLAYERRRRR!!! Classic lineup of Araya, Hanneman, King & Lombardo. Showcasing songs from the epic record Seasons in the Abyss. The pit was insane!!! Closing the show was New York heroes Anthrax. Sporting the classic lineup of Belladonna, Bello, Benante, Ian & Spitz the boys were supporting their dark and heavy record Persistence of Time. Anthrax killed it!!! These bands were at their creative peaks and I'm so grateful I was able to witness the event.

36 years ago, I saw Metallica/Queensryche for my first show.
I remember my parents weren't too keen on me going into the city. But I was a newly born Metalhead, and I was not going to take no for an answer. At the time, I was living and breathing Thrash. I can recall for weeks prior to the show, I would sit at my dining room table, put Metallica on the stereo, and actually practice headbanging. My parents did not get it. I'm sure it was quite a ridiculous sight. But if you practice, you will get better at it, and I wanted to prove I was a proper Thrasher. Myself and three other friends took a couple of buses into the city. That was a bit dicey for young teenagers, but all went well. Queensryche opened, and they did a fantastic job. I know a lot of people could not understand why they were opening for Metallica. Fortunately for me, I was a fan of Queensryche.
And they were great! Then Metallica arrived. The place was on fire! Everyone around me was headbanging and screaming along with James. Everyone knows this monumental tour and how amazing they sounded on this tour. We were in the upper section, but it didn't matter. The energy was flowing like a tsunami throughout the whole arena.
Just swallowing everyone up. For the ride home, we all treated ourselves and pitched in for a limousine. Just the four of us, like rockstars in a limousine. I recall us sticking our bodies out of the sunroof and screaming along to everyone in the parking lot. Someone points at me and says "Look there's Kirk Hammett." And silly me replies."No, James Hetfield." He was my guy back then. We got home late with ringing ears and sore necks. But we were safe. I'll never forget this night. EPIC!!!

January 12, 1992, I saw Pantera open up for Skid Row. Here is the ticket stub and the pick that Dime placed in my hand after finishing their set.
It was an epic night that my brother, a friend, and myself almost did not survive. After we left the show on a huge adrenaline high, my friend, who was driving, mistakenly got onto the wrong side of the highway. We had a head-on collision! We narrowly slipped away from that without loss of life or injury. Though my friends car was totaled.
He was upset. 🤭
