You don’t need dozens of brushes to create depth and texture, just the right core set. Only 6 left! I so enjoyed working on this calm earthy palette with colours that were new and very reactive in the textured paper. They crackle and break apart. The granulation was fascinating to watch develop as the paint dried.
Each piece is sized to pop directly into a standard 4” × 6” mat opening inside an 8” × 10” frame. They will be signed on the back.

TRYING BAOHONG for the first time. These are small 4x6 studies.
Artists' Watercolor Paper Block (20 Sheets, glued on Four Edges), 100% Cotton, Acid-Free, 140LB/300GSM
Just keep in mind it is really rough for a cold press paper, but it has so much potential !

I was so frustrated with this 4x6 watercolour, that I scrubbed the whole thing off. What remained was so much more interesting!!! It made me realize that in such a small scale, it’s important (possibly even MORE important) to keep it simple and not so tight or detailed.

NO RULES !
I think I’ve found an endless well of inspiration from our trip to Iceland 🇮🇸
It has allowed me to explore more subdued earthy hues and look at shape and value more closely. Here are a few raw studies I’ve just completed in the last few days. I so rarely do studies but I’m working out some new pigments with very granular qualities and it’s been fun to play. I’ve also brought in some gouache which, my old rigid “purest” watercolour self from years ago would have been horrified with. Swipe through to take a peek. If you’re curious about any of the pigments used here or are curious about the idea of pricing these studies , I welcome all comments always.
