The hike to Johnston Canyon’s Upper Falls is a breathtaking journey through a canyon sculpted by water, light, and time. The trail winds along narrow catwalks above a turquoise creek, with limestone walls rising in smooth, dramatic curves on either side. As you climb higher, the sound of the Upper Falls grows into a deep, thundering roar — and then you see it: a powerful white curtain of water plunging into an emerald pool, mist catching the sunlight like tiny sparks. It’s a moment that feels wild, cinematic, and unforgettable.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate — suitable for most hikers
Distance: About 5.2 km round trip.
