The Video Game Sage

Hello fellow Sages!
Thank you to everyone who joined my Hollow Knight Silksong Act III Livestream this last Monday! I REALLY appreciate that you took the time to stop by.
I had hoped to do the whole of Act III in a single stream, but it quickly became clear that it would take a little more time than that.
So we're gonna do it again the morning of Friday, July 3rd.
11:30 AM EST, 10:30 AM CST, 9:30 AM MST, 8:30 AM PST.
See you then!

The Video Game Sage

Hello fellow Sages!
I’ve worked hard these last couple weeks to finish Act II of Hollow Knight Silksong. With today’s posting of my battle with Grandmother Silk, I’m finally there.
But I want to finish this game as well. I’ve been working on it for 9 months.
To that end I’d like to announce that I will be Livestreaming Act III this coming Monday 6/29/2026. I’ve got the day set aside for it.
I’ll be starting around 12 PM EST, 11 AM CST, 10 AM MST, 9 AM PST.
Come join the fun as I try to say “pharwell” to Pharloom.

The Video Game Sage

Hello fellow Sages!

I've been away for awhile, I know. But work trips, COVID, the start of school, and exploding faucets won't keep me down. They are but challenges on the journey.

I'm excited to be back today. I bring with me not one video, but two: The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales demo, parts 1 and 2 both available today! I originally intended it to be a single video, but at an hour and fifty minutes it was just too big to upload to Youtube in one go. So after splitting it into two parts, it's now available! Please check it out.

Even more exciting is that, even though a run for Bloodstained on Switch 2 has been promised, and chosen by vote, things change. With new information comes new choices. And while I will still finish Sekiro, and I will provide that Bloodstained run, a new challenger has appeared!

Hollow Knight: Silksong is now available, and my first episode will be posted tomorrow! I hope that game will satisfy all of you who have enjoyed my BS and Metroid Dread comparison videos. I will do my best to have an episode a day, but that is merely a goal, not a promise.

Thank you all for coming on this journey with me!

The Video Game Sage

Hello to all my fellow Sages!

Again, there are SO many more of you than there were when I made my last post! Thank you so, so, so much for your support!

The success of my Bloodstained AND Metroid Dread comparison videos continues to be amazing and humbling. It's also come as a bit of a surprise.

My intention for this channel was to do playthroughs of a variety of great games. I started with Sekiro, doing a NG+ because it's a great game, because it's a From Software game which are games with old school difficulty, and kind of popular right now, and thirdly because it's an NG+, meaning I was already familiar with the game, and it would be easier to play through it, and learn how to create and edit videos. It was a good scratch pad game.

As I look back at my first few videos to what I've now produced today, I'm happy to say I see progress. I hope you all have enjoyed the Sekiro run, and encourage you to go back and watch those, even though those first few videos are pretty rough. I have a few more videos left before I complete my goal for this playthrough, and now that we're through the summer holidays and other things I look forward to finishing that.

One of the most surprising things I've learned about this channel though, was the sheer difference in popularity between these Switch 2 Comparison videos and the Sekiro videos. Doing the Comparison videos was kind of a last minute decision, and a major deviation from my "plan." But the reaction to those is so exciting, wonderful and humbling.

What is particularly interesting to me is that my two most popular videos are Bloodstained and Metroid Dread. Two Metroidvania's. Clearly there are a lot of Metroidvania fans who deserve more content! When those videos blew up, I continued to be surprised that there wasn't more crossover between those viewers and the Sekiro videos. Afterall, From Software games are 3D Metroidvania's!

So my original plan was to follow up my Sekiro run with a run on Dark Souls. I've finished Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, but I've deliberately avoided watching Dark Souls so that I could go in to that run totally blind. I do have more Switch 2 comparison videos planned, but I can't do them forever, partly because I only have so many games worth comparing, and partly because the Switch 2 won't be NEW forever. I have plans for a different kind of analysis video series. Stay tuned! In the meantime I still plan to do Sage Journey/Let's Play videos (Sage Journey ARE Let's Play videos, I'm just trying to be cute with my "brand.") And I've got all these Bloodstained and Metroid Dread fans!

UPDATE
--------
The poll is now closed. Bloodstained plus Classic Modes on Switch 2 won, and will be my next playthrough after I wrap up Sekiro. Thank you to the voters!

The Video Game Sage

Hello to all my fellow Sages! There are so many more of you than there were a few days ago. Thank you so much for your support!

The success of my Bloodstained Switch vs. Switch 2 Comparison video was completely unexpected and quite humbling. Not only that, it came at a very busy time with summer break and spending time with my family.

But I'm still hard at work on new content! I have more comparison videos coming, and one launches tomorrow. After that I'll be getting back on track with my Sekiro NG+ playthrough. I plan to have maybe five more videos in that series before it's complete.

The success and support may have changed my plans for my next playthrough. Maybe I'll do a poll on what my next game should be.

In any case, thank you all again, stay tuned---and until next time, Sage out!
