2025 Sagaing Earthquake Archive
On March 28, 2025, a powerful magnitude 7.7 - 7.9 earthquake struck central Myanmar in the Sagaing Region, close to Mandalay, at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. The quake, occurring at a shallow depth of 10 km, caused intense shaking felt all across Myanmar. It was also felt widely in neighboring countries; like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Southern China, Bangladesh and Eastern India.

Hi there! As we have reached 10k subs in our channel, we can't express our gratitude with the attention and awareness our videos are getting. It's our goal with these videos that the world will be aware of the extent of the damage inflicted in Myanmar. Most outlets stopped covering the event, the devastation it caused, and impact on both the country and the ongoing civil war long before the true scale of the disaster could be grasped. Many outlets neglected Myanmar altogether, only covering Bangkok. We feel both preserving the event to keep the earthquake from being forgotten and for further study without any fear mongering, editing, cut-outs, narrators, media bias, misinformation, or AI videos.
Due to the government censorship and the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, as well as general undercoverage in seismic sensors, comprehensive study has been made nearly impossible, especially in certain areas where the current clashes in the war are particularly brutal. As such, we have developed a video intensity map that shows all the exact points of many videos and a color-coded estimated MMI intensity (IV to X in this case). Our 2025 Myanmar video map has already been utilized for research on ground movement (specifically in the Sagaing area), as there is barely any recorded seismic data (such as stations) for them to reference and entrance into those areas is heavily restricted by the Burmese Government. The next best thing researchers, such as those at the Earth Observatory of Singapore, have is the footage. This reinforced the importance of our efforts. Our video map consists of hundreds of shaking videos, damage videos, fault scarp videos, and more. It will still be receiving updates after release, though not as frequent as the amount of new videos being found are getting slimmer. That being said, if you or someone you know has footage of the earthquake, please send it to us. We will upload the video and credit the owner of the video. Thank you for the ongoing support!
