Rather than release everything at once, I’m going to share one video each week as a special 13-part Now Spinning Magazine series, giving each response the space it deserves.

Deep Purple : Abandon : 1998
Seen initially as a step down from Purpendicular (it was certainly a lot heavier). I really like this album now.
The posters introduced it as funk, swing, jazz, blues and pure rock n roll ...
I saw them at the NEC on 15th October 98 and they were just starting to add new tracks into the set. By the time they got to Australia other tracks had been added and some even survived to have an orchestra added for the Concerto gigs at the Albert Hall.

This was released in Europe only for just 59p to help promote a tour that included;
The Doobie Brothers
Montrose
Little Feat
Tower of Power
Graham Central Station
and Bonaroo

The dates for the UK were Jan 15-16 Manchester and London 18 - 19

I was too young to go but would have loved to have seen Montrose and The Doobie Brothers on the same stage.
