UPDATE / CORRECTIONS:

Since publishing this video, I was contacted by someone else directly familiar with this incident who provided several important corrections and additional details. I want to add those here so the original video is not left as the only version of events.

• There were approximately 30 minutes of flight before the portion shown in the video, including roughly 15 minutes with the pedals not working. During that time, diagnostic and power checks were carried out to determine the best airspeed and power settings for the landing.

• The helicopter was not committed to the landing until it was over the runway. According to the information I received, a go-around remained possible until approximately 10 feet due to the helicopter still carrying about 65 knots.

• The helicopter was a Bell 407HP with a Honeywell engine and dual FADEC. The throttle operates very differently from the standard Bell 407 installation, with only a very small range of movement between the flight and idle settings.

• I was told that a dual inspection WAS completed by a licensed engineer following the maintenance. In the original video, based on information provided to me by the person who submitted the video, I said that this inspection may not have been completed. I want to specifically correct that point because of the potential implications for the company and maintenance personnel involved.

• Emergency services were positioned and ready in case of a rollover or other problem during the landing.

• Finally, I referred to this event as one of three "accidents" near the end of the video. That was incorrect. There was no damage to the helicopter, and it returned to service following identification of the cause and a thorough inspection. I should have referred to this event as an incident.

I appreciate these corrections being brought to my attention. One of the purposes of these videos is to learn from real events, and that means correcting the record when better information becomes available.

I have asked several follow-up questions about the flight, troubleshooting, approach, maintenance, and landing. If I receive additional information, I will let you know the details.
