A bizarre legal case in Taiwan has sparked debate over privacy, surveillance and the limits of using technology to uncover infidelity.

A Taiwanese man suspected his wife was having an affair after noticing clues at the couple’s holiday home. He eventually remotely activated a camera-equipped robot vacuum through its mobile app. Instead of simply using the device to communicate with his wife, its live camera feed captured her with another man in an intimate situation. The husband recorded the footage and later used it as evidence in a civil lawsuit.

The civil court ruled that the relationship had gone beyond ordinary friendship and ordered the wife and the other man to pay him NT$500,000 — roughly ₹15 lakh — in compensation for violating his marital rights.

But the victory came with a shocking twist. His wife filed a separate complaint, accusing him of secretly recording her private activities without consent. The criminal court rejected his argument that the recording was legally justified because it had been accepted as evidence in the civil case.

The man was ultimately sentenced to five months in prison and fined NT$150,000, around ₹4.5 lakh, for unlawfully recording private footage.

Current ex-farm egg prices are around ₹7 per egg, while retail prices are reportedly reaching ₹8.5–₹9 per egg.
