Out here in Idaho teaching the boy the old ways. Step one: build the signal fire.

It’s for our friends still trapped behind the lines. Washington just signed its first income tax ever, a 9.9% hit on the millionaires, which is government for “everybody, give it a minute.” Oregon’s putting it to a vote whether fishing should be a crime, an actual crime, handcuffs for a bluegill. Canada’s letting the courts quietly decide who really owns your house while you’re asleep in it. And California passed a law telling the schools to hide it from you if your own kid changes their name and their gender somewhere between homeroom and lunch.

Meanwhile my son is standing two feet off an open flame holding a stick, wearing exactly one boot. By the fire. And he’s thriving.

Follow the smoke, folks. It’s warm out here, and the kids are feral in the good way.
