đź’™ NEW TODAY: PRINCE WILLIAM KNIGHTS SIR KEVIN SINFIELD AT WINDSOR CASTLE
Some honours celebrate achievement. Others recognise the kind of love, loyalty and courage that changes lives.
This morning at Windsor Castle, Prince William presented a knighthood to rugby legend and motor neurone disease campaigner Sir Kevin Sinfield, recognising his services to rugby league, rugby union and the MND community.
It was a deeply moving moment in a story that began not with a medal or a title, but with one friend refusing to abandon another.
When Kevin’s former Leeds Rhinos teammate and close friend Rob Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, Kevin chose to stand beside him—and then began running so that the world would stand beside him too.
His first challenge in 2020 saw him complete seven marathons in seven days. The number seven was chosen in honour of Rob’s Leeds Rhinos shirt number.
What followed became one of the most extraordinary demonstrations of friendship in British sport.
Year after year, Kevin pushed his body through punishing endurance challenges, raising millions for MND charities, funding research, supporting families and helping give a louder voice to people living with this cruel disease.
Rob died in 2024, but Kevin did not stop.
He continued running for his friend, for Rob’s family and for every person whose life has been changed by MND.
Only days ago, Prince William and Princess Catherine surprised Kevin during the most difficult day of his final 7 in 7 Challenge, offering their encouragement and helping bring even greater attention to the MND community.
The Princess Royal also supported the final stage of his remarkable journey.
And today, Kevin knelt before Prince William at Windsor Castle and rose as Sir Kevin Sinfield.
He had previously been appointed an MBE in 2014, an OBE in 2021 and a CBE in 2024—but this knighthood represents something greater than a list of honours.
It represents every mile run through exhaustion.
Every person who donated.
Every family that felt seen.
Every conversation that helped the public understand MND.
And above all, it represents a promise between two friends—a promise that Rob would never be forgotten.
Thank you, Prince William, for honouring a man whose loyalty and compassion have inspired millions.
And congratulations, Sir Kevin.
Your knighthood may have been presented inside the grandeur of Windsor Castle, but it was earned on the roads, through the rain, in the pain and beside the families whose burdens you chose to help carry.
Rob was not standing in that room today, but his presence could be felt in every part of this moment.
This honour carries his number, his memory and the friendship that started it all.
Arise, Sir Kevin Sinfield—a knight not only of the realm, but of friendship, courage and humanity. 💙

đź’™ NEW TODAY: PRINCE WILLIAM HELPS ILMINSTER PREPARE FOR THE EMERGENCIES OF TOMORROW
Some of the strongest communities are not defined by the hardships they face, but by the way ordinary people quietly step forward when their neighbours need them most.
Today, Prince William visited Ilminster in Somerset to learn how local people are building resilience in the face of increasingly frequent floods, wildfires and other emergencies.
As Royal Patron of the National Emergencies Trust, William officially launched Ready Together—a new nationwide initiative designed to help communities take simple, practical steps before an emergency happens.
Because when floodwaters begin to rise, when fire threatens homes or when roads and essential services are disrupted, preparation can make the difference between people feeling frightened and alone—or knowing exactly where to turn.
William began the visit at Ilminster Town Football Club, where he was joined by National Emergencies Trust ambassador Ross Kemp, local residents, volunteers and members of the club’s Under-16 team.
Around a table filled with emergency supplies—including first-aid items, food and other essentials—they explored what an emergency preparedness kit should contain and discussed the practical actions families and communities can take before a crisis arrives.
William and Ross then joined local participants in working through a series of emergency scenarios. These exercises were not simply about knowing what to pack in a bag. They showed how trusted relationships, local knowledge and clear community plans can help people respond quickly, check on vulnerable neighbours and ensure that no one is forgotten.
Research has shown that many people are willing to help during an emergency, yet far fewer believe their communities have the structures and plans needed to respond effectively. Ready Together hopes to bridge that gap—turning kindness and goodwill into practical preparation.
For Ilminster, this work is deeply personal.
The town has already experienced the fear and disruption caused by severe flooding and wildfires. William met members of the Ilminster Resilience Group, a local volunteer network formed to support residents during emergencies.
He listened as volunteers explained why they chose to step forward, how their knowledge of the area helps them identify who may need assistance and why strong local relationships are so important when formal emergency services are stretched.
These are the people who know which neighbour lives alone, who may not have transport, who needs medication, who could struggle to leave their home and whose telephone may be the first one that needs to be called.
William also spent time with community leaders and local business owners who opened their doors and supported residents during recent periods of extreme weather and disruption.
As he moved through Ilminster’s town centre, crowds gathered to welcome him. He stopped to speak with residents, greet excited children and listen to the people whose experiences are helping shape a safer future for their town.
One particularly meaningful stop was Sweet Surprise, a café that provides adults with learning disabilities with opportunities to develop skills, grow in confidence and play an active role within their community.
William met the people connected to the café and heard how it supported vulnerable residents during difficult periods. Sweet Surprise became more than somewhere to have a cup of tea—it became a familiar and trusted place where people could find help, reassurance and human connection.
Community spaces like this can become lifelines during an emergency. They are places where information can be shared, frightened residents can feel less alone and those who may otherwise be overlooked can remain connected to the help they need.
William’s final stop was Ilminster Fire Station, where he met representatives from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and partner organisations working to protect communities from future extreme-weather emergencies.
There, he learned how emergency services are working alongside residents and local farmers to strengthen preparations before disaster strikes.
Fire and rescue representatives also showed him how advances in mapping and weather-forecasting technology can help them identify areas at risk, anticipate flooding or wildfires and share important information with communities sooner.
It was an opportunity to recognise not only the courage required when firefighters are called into danger, but also the careful planning, training and cooperation that take place long before an emergency vehicle ever leaves the station.
William examined the equipment, spoke with the crews and thanked those who remain ready to answer the call whenever their community needs them.
But perhaps the most touching moments of the day were the simplest ones: the hands William reached for, the smiles he shared with children, the elderly residents he stopped to greet and the way he listened to people whose quiet service may never make national headlines.
Preparedness may begin with emergency kits, maps and carefully written plans, but its true foundation is people.
It is the neighbour who checks on someone living alone.
The volunteer who answers the telephone.
The local business that opens its doors.
The café that becomes a safe place.
The farmer who shares vital knowledge of the land.
And the first responder who runs toward danger while everyone else is being led to safety.
Thank you, William, for recognising these quiet heroes, for listening to the lessons this community has learned and for helping turn painful experiences from the past into protection for the future.
And to the volunteers, young people, café workers, business owners, farmers, emergency crews and residents of Ilminster: your work matters.
You have shown that resilience is not simply about enduring the storm. It is about preparing together, standing together and making certain that when the worst happens, no one is left to face it alone. đź’™

đź’™ COMING TUESDAY: PRINCE WILLIAM TO LAUNCH A NEW INITIATIVE HELPING COMMUNITIES PREPARE FOR THE UNEXPECTED
On Tuesday, October 6, the Prince of Wales will visit Ilminster in Somerset to learn how residents, volunteers, young people, businesses and emergency services are working together to protect their community from increasingly frequent extreme weather.
During the visit, William will launch Ready Together, a new initiative from the National Emergencies Trust that will provide practical guidance to help communities across the United Kingdom prepare for and respond to emergencies.
There is something deeply reassuring about the name Ready Together, because when floods rise, wildfires threaten or an unexpected crisis changes everything, preparedness is not only about plans written on paper. It is about people knowing their neighbours, volunteers understanding where help is needed, emergency services having strong local partnerships and no vulnerable person being forgotten.
As Patron of the National Emergencies Trust, William will join volunteers and young people taking part in a training exercise involving a series of simulated emergency situations. He will see how ordinary people can turn their willingness to help into the knowledge and preparation needed to respond when their community faces its most difficult moments.
He will also meet members of the Ilminster Resilience Group, whose volunteers have supported residents during severe flooding. Behind a title like “resilience group” are people who step forward when homes are threatened, families are frightened and neighbours need someone to remind them that they are not facing the crisis alone.
William is also expected to visit Sweet Surprise, a café that provides opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. I am especially pleased that this is included in the visit, because building a resilient community must mean creating a place where everyone is included, valued and given the opportunity to contribute.
The visit will conclude at Ilminster Fire Station, where William will meet representatives from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and learn about the mapping and forecasting tools being used to prepare for the growing danger of wildfires.
What touches me about this engagement is that it recognises the strength already living within local communities. It honours the residents who look after one another, the volunteers who give their time, the young people willing to learn, and the emergency workers who prepare for dangers most of us hope never arrive.
True resilience is not pretending that nothing will go wrong. It is knowing that if something does, people have prepared, relationships have been built and help will not be far away.
Thank you, William, for using your position to bring attention to the people quietly preparing, protecting and caring for their communities. And thank you to every volunteer, resident and emergency worker whose service reminds us that even in the most frightening moments, no community should have to stand alone. đź’™

đź’™ A VISIT ACROSS THE ATLANTIC, BRINGING PEOPLE, HISTORY AND OPPORTUNITY TOGETHER
Some of the most meaningful moments in a visit happen in the conversations, the shared stories and the opportunities created for others.
During his visit to the United States last week, the Duke of Edinburgh travelled from New York to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., celebrating the friendship between the UK and the US, with a particular focus on young people, opportunity and the arts.
In New York, Edward met representatives from the city’s cultural sector at the Metropolitan Opera—a place where art brings people together across backgrounds and borders.
In Baltimore, he visited Western High School, the oldest all-girls public high school in the United States. The school was becoming a new partner of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. I keep thinking about the young women who will have the chance to take part: discovering what they’re capable of, building confidence, and finding their own path through new experiences. An opportunity like that can become a memory—and a source of belief in yourself—that stays with you long after school.
In Washington, D.C., Edward visited Mount Vernon, toured its new education centre and met with supporters and historians. He also laid a wreath at George Washington’s tomb. That moment carries such quiet meaning: a British royal paying respect at the resting place of the first U.S. president, on a visit celebrating the ties between two nations with a long, shared history.
Later in Washington, Edward joined guests from the arts, heritage and education sectors at the British Ambassador’s residence for The King’s Birthday Party. He also met young people who had achieved the Gold Standard of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Award USA serves young people in all 50 states, with a growing network of 78 partners delivering the Award across the country—a wonderful reminder that the Award’s encouragement and challenges reach young people far beyond the UK.
What touches me about this visit is the way it brought together so many generations and communities: students looking ahead, historians caring for the past, artists sharing their work, and young Award achievers whose determination deserves to be celebrated.
Thank you, Edward, for taking the time to meet these students, young people, cultural leaders and historians—and for celebrating the friendship between the UK and the US through the people and places that give it meaning. 💙

đź’™ YESTERDAY: SOPHIE STOOD WITH THE REME FAMILY AS THEY REMEMBERED, HONOURED AND GAVE THANKS
Yesterday, the Duchess of Edinburgh joined the REME family at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens for Memorial Day. It was a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, to honour serving personnel and veterans, and to recognize the families who have carried the weight of service beside them.
This year held special meaning: the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers marked its 84th birthday, and a new memorial centerpiece—made by REME metalsmiths—was dedicated. There is something deeply moving about a memorial shaped by the hands of the very people who understand the skill, pride and history it represents. It will stand as a lasting tribute to those remembered there.
Sophie attended as Colonel-in-Chief, but what stays with me is the tenderness of the occasion: people gathering not only to remember the fallen, but to honor everyone whose life has been touched by service. The serving personnel continuing the work today. The veterans who carry their memories. The families who have waited, worried, supported and loved through it all.
Remembrance can be quiet. It can be a name spoken, a moment of silence, a hand resting on a shoulder. And sometimes it is a community coming together to say: We remember you. We are grateful. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Thank you, Sophie, for standing with the REME family on such a meaningful day and for continuing to show your care for those who serve, those who have served, and those who love them. To every member of the REME family: may you know that your service, your loss and your devotion are held with deep respect. đź’™

đź’™ NEW TODAY: A NIGHT AT WINDSOR TO HONOUR 125 YEARS OF THE SILENT SERVICE
Some of the most extraordinary acts of service happen far from the cameras, beneath the waves, and away from the people who miss you most.
This week at Windsor, Prince William welcomed serving submariners and veterans for an evening marking 125 years of the Royal Navy Submarine Service. As Commodore-in-Chief, he brought together people whose lives are bound by courage, commitment and the quiet weight of service. Today, October 2, is the anniversary itself.
As Commodore-in-Chief, William joined those who have served, those still serving, and those who have stood beside them. Looking at these pictures, I keep thinking about all the stories gathered in that room: the years spent serving beneath the sea, the quiet strength this demanding work asks of people, and the families who wait at home, carrying the worry and missing someone they love.
For 125 years, submariners have served in some of the most challenging environments, often far from public view. Their professionalism, resilience and dedication deserve to be remembered. So do the loved ones who share the long absences and sacrifices, and the veterans whose service remains part of this remarkable history.
There is something deeply touching about bringing generations together—to remember those who came before, honour those serving now, and recognize everyone who has helped make the Silent Service what it is.
Thank you, William, for bringing these submariners and veterans together and helping honour their service and sacrifice. And to every submariner, past and present, and every family who has shared this life of service: thank you. Your work may often happen out of sight, but you are seen, valued and held in our hearts with gratitude. đź’™

đź’™ NEW TODAY: PRINCE WILLIAM LISTENED TO A COMMUNITY STILL LIVING WITH THE IMPACT OF FLOODING
A flood may pass, but for the people who live through it, the worry can stay—wondering what the next storm might bring, and how it could affect their home, their work and the life they have built.
Today, the Prince of Wales visited Skenfrith in Monmouthshire, where he met residents and listened to how recent flooding has affected their homes, livelihoods and everyday lives. He also spoke with the people and organisations working to help the community prepare for what may come next.
There is something powerful about taking the time to hear directly from the people living with a challenge. Their experiences are not just numbers or headlines. They are personal stories of disruption, uncertainty and the determination to keep going.
William also visited Stump Up For Trees, a community-based charity working with local people and farmers. He learned how planting trees can help strengthen flood resilience, restore nature and protect the countryside for the future. It is hopeful to see communities coming together to find practical ways to care for the places they call home.
The people of Skenfrith deserve to know that their voices are heard and that their experiences matter. May the work being done across Monmouthshire bring greater resilience, lasting support and reassurance to families facing the next storm season.
Thank you, William, for listening to residents and bringing attention to the people working to protect their community. And to everyone in Skenfrith who continues to support their neighbours and build a safer future: your strength and care for one another are deeply moving. đź’™

đź’ś NEW TODAY: SOPHIE MET WITH WOMEN WHO KEEP WORKING FOR PEACE, EVEN WHEN THE WORLD FEELS HEAVY
On September 29, the Duchess of Edinburgh joined women peacebuilders at the Peace Palace in The Hague for ICAN’s “Security Reimagined” forum. The Royal Family shared these moments today, and I found myself thinking about the women Sophie met—and the courage each of them carries.
They came from countries including Afghanistan, Syria and Uganda, where they are working in their own communities to advance peace and security. Their work asks so much of them: strength in the face of conflict, compassion for people who have been hurt, and the determination to keep believing that a safer future is possible.
In the photographs, we see Sophie listening and sharing a moment with the women around her. Those small moments of human connection matter. Behind every conversation about peace are people and families hoping for safety, healing and the chance to build a better future together.
Sophie has continued to champion the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the importance of women having a meaningful voice in peace processes. Women who understand the realities facing their communities deserve to be heard when decisions are made about those communities’ futures. Their experiences, leadership and ideas belong at the heart of that work.
Peace is not built in a single day. It takes people who keep showing up, keep listening and keep working for others—even when the road ahead is difficult. The women Sophie met are doing exactly that, often far from the spotlight.
Today, I’m thinking about the women Sophie met—the courage they carry, the communities they serve and the hope they keep alive. May their voices be heard, their work be supported and their efforts bring a more peaceful future within reach. 💜
Thank you, Sophie, for continuing to stand alongside women peacebuilders and helping bring attention to their work. 🩷🩷🩷🎉🎉🙏

💙 NEW TODAY: A VISIT THAT BEGAN AT SOMEONE’S FRONT DOOR AND ENDED AROUND A TABLE
Today, the Princess of Wales joined one of West Sussex Minibus’s pick-up journeys in Pulborough, travelling alongside the volunteers who give their time to help people remain connected to their community.
Catherine went directly to passengers’ homes and helped them make their way onto the minibus. Among them was 94-year-old Stella Drewett, who had recently begun using the service after she stopped driving. Stella now relies on the minibus for her weekly shopping trip and to attend the Wednesday lunch club at Pulborough Village Hall.
She joked that the lunch gathering gave her “one day of not cooking,” but beneath that little moment of humour is something deeply meaningful. Without this service, many people could lose far more than transportation. They could lose their independence, their weekly conversations, the comfort of familiar faces and the simple happiness of having somewhere to go.
After travelling with the passengers, Catherine joined them at Pulborough Village Hall for the weekly lunch meeting. She sat with attendees, shared in their laughter and listened as they spoke about how much the gathering means to them. The lunch club provides a warm and welcoming place where people from across the area can enjoy a meal, take part in activities, talk with one another and feel part of their community.
Catherine also spent time with the West Sussex Minibus volunteers, hearing about the dedication behind every journey. These are the people who knock on doors, offer a steady hand, welcome passengers aboard and make sure they can continue attending the activities that bring meaning and companionship to their lives.
For 50 years, West Sussex Minibus has quietly carried people towards connection. What began with one volunteer and one minibus has grown into a network of eight village hubs, 11 minibuses and 284 volunteers. Together, they travel approximately 60,000 miles and provide around 13,000 passenger journeys every year.
Those numbers are remarkable, but the real story lives inside every journey: an older person who can still do their own shopping, someone who no longer has to spend the day alone, a shared lunch, a familiar smile and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten.
To every volunteer who has opened a door, offered an arm, driven those miles or made space around the lunch table—thank you. Your kindness helps people hold on to their independence, their friendships and their place within the community.
And today, by travelling the journey herself, helping passengers aboard and joining them for lunch, the Princess of Wales helped shine a light on the quiet love that has kept this community moving for half a century. đź’™

đź’™ NEW TODAY: THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES CELEBRATE SPORT, COMMUNITY AND AN ENDURING FRIENDSHIP
There are royal engagements that inform us, and then there are moments that reach quietly into the heart. Today’s visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales did both.
At AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, William and Catherine learned how Leeds Rhinos and its charitable foundation are using sport to give people something deeply valuable: confidence, opportunity, inclusion and a sense of belonging.
William and Catherine met Jamie Jones-Buchanan MBE, CEO of Leeds Rhinos and a lifelong friend of the late Rob Burrow. They heard about the club’s history, Rob’s lasting legacy and the Foundation’s work supporting health, education, inclusion and wellbeing throughout the community.
They also spent time with young people involved in the Rugby League Development Plan, which creates opportunities for participants to develop their skills, confidence and sense of belonging. As Patron of the Rugby Football League, Catherine joined William in wishing players heading to the Rugby League World Cup the very best of luck.
But throughout the engagement, the memory of one remarkable man was never far away.
Rob Burrow’s courage changed the way so many people understood motor neurone disease. Although his life was far too short, the love he inspired continues to move through his family, his former club and the wider rugby community.
Later in Wakefield came the moment that brought everything together.
William and Catherine were waiting to surprise Sir Kevin Sinfield as he completed day three of his final “7 in 7” challenge for the MND community. After mile upon exhausting mile, Sir Kevin saw them at the finish—and the emotion of the moment was written across his face.
As he spoke through tears, Rob’s children, Macy, Maya and Jackson, and Rob’s mother, Irene, watched nearby. William and Catherine told Sir Kevin that he was “so inspiring,” but perhaps what makes his journey so powerful is something even deeper than endurance.
It is love.
It is the love of a friend who made a promise and continues to keep it. The love of a
community refusing to forget. The love of a family watching Rob’s name carried forward with every step.
Rob was not standing beside Sir Kevin at that finish line, yet his presence could be felt everywhere.
Some friendships do not end with goodbye. They become purpose. They become courage. They become a legacy strong enough to carry others forward. đź’™
