Governor Emeritus Ojaamong to Host Community Thanksgiving Ceremony
Former Busia Governor and current Chairperson of the National Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Kenya, Sospeter Odeke Ojaamong, will on Friday host local residents and invited guests at his Okilidu residence in Teso South Sub-County for a thanksgiving ceremony.
Speaking on Wednesday, Ojaamong said the event is meant to appreciate residents of Okilidu, Otimong, and Asiriam locations for their support throughout his political journey. The gathering will feature a community luncheon and is expected to attract leaders and residents from across the region.
The former governor confirmed that Governor Paul Otuoma will be among the dignitaries expected to attend the occasion.
However, Ojaamong dismissed speculation that he would use the event to make a major political announcement, despite growing public interest in his next political move ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political observers have closely followed Ojaamong's activities in recent months, particularly following his association with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
.
The development has fueled debate about whether the veteran politician could be preparing a political comeback.
Ojaamong remains one of Busia County's most influential political figures. He made history in 2013 when he became the first Governor of Busia County following the introduction of devolved government under Kenya's 2010 Constitution.
He successfully defended the seat in 2017 and served until 2022 when he exited office after completing the constitutionally permitted two terms.
Following his gubernatorial tenure, Ojaamong contested the Teso South parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election but lost to incumbent MP Mary Emaase.
Born in Otimong, Teso South, Ojaamong began his career as a teacher before joining public service. He later served as a Personal Assistant to Raila Odinga between 1995 and 2001.
His political career started in 2002 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Amagoro Constituency on a NARC ticket. He retained the seat in the 2007 General Election and later served as Assistant Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development during the Grand Coalition Government.
Friday's thanksgiving ceremony is expected to provide an opportunity for Ojaamong to reconnect with his grassroots supporters while reflecting on his political journey and public service record.

The Busia County Executive Committee Member for Roads and Transport in Busia County, Peter Odima, has denied claims that the Busia County Government is plotting to sell some of its vehicles and trucks secretly.
Speaking to journalists in Busia town after officially receiving a county tipper lorry that had been reported stuck in Rongo, Migori County, Odima clarified that the Busia County Government has clear procedures for selling or leasing its vehicles — not through baseless rumors.
He also urged critics of Governor Paul Otuoma to give him space to serve the people effectively, without dragging unnecessary and directionless politics into county matters.
