Delhi’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has thrown up a list of high-profile voters facing notices over discrepancies in their voter details.

Former deputy prime minister LK Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar and Election Commissioner SS Sandhu are among those flagged in the exercise. The list also includes Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, former JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, former Delhi LG Najeeb Jung, SEBI chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, former Army chief Upendra Dwivedi and CBI Director Praveen Sood.

The notices are part of a much larger exercise. Of the more than 97 lakh voters in the draft rolls, 33.13 lakh have been identified for notices over discrepancies, with many cases involving voter details that could not be matched with the previous SIR records from 2002.

A large number of the prominent names flagged are voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Election officials have clarified that receiving a notice does not automatically mean deletion from the electoral roll; voters can respond and submit supporting documents for verification.

The Election Commission on Friday allotted Mamata Banerjee’s faction the name ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’ and the ‘Football Player’ symbol. The rival camp, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, has been given the name ‘Democratic Trinamool Congress’ and the ‘Envelope’ symbol.

The move follows the poll panel’s interim decision to freeze the original ‘All India Trinamool Congress’ name and its traditional ‘Flowers and Grass’ symbol for the upcoming bypolls. Both factions had been asked to submit alternative names and symbols while the larger dispute over the party’s identity and control is examined.

The Election Commission’s decision comes ahead of the October 6 bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar, meaning voters in these contests will see the two rival camps on the ballot under their newly allotted identities. The fresh names and symbols are an interim arrangement while the Commission continues its proceedings on the underlying dispute.

The Tata Sons board approved Chandrasekaran’s reappointment on Thursday, despite reports that he had told directors weeks earlier that he did not intend to seek another term when his current tenure ends on February 20, 2027. The decision has now triggered a direct confrontation with Tata Trusts, which holds a key position in the governance structure of Tata Sons.

Tata Trusts, chaired by Noel N Tata, has argued that the resolution approving Chandrasekaran’s reappointment is a “legal nullity”. The Trusts’ position stems from Noel Tata, who is also one of the Trusts’ nominee directors on the Tata Sons board, voting against the resolution.

The developments come alongside another major decision by the Tata Sons board: to move ahead with plans for a potential listing of the holding company. Both Chandrasekaran’s reappointment and the listing proposal will require approval at the company’s Annual General Meeting.

With Tata Trusts now openly challenging a key board decision, the dispute puts the spotlight on the balance of power between Tata Sons, its board and the Trusts that sit at the heart of the Tata Group’s ownership structure. The immediate question is whether the disagreement can be resolved through corporate governance processes or whether it could escalate into a wider legal battle over the future leadership and direction of Tata Sons.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) was part of the IAF's Operation Safed Sagar team during the 1999 Kargil War — the real officer behind "Goofy," the character played by Arnav Bhasin in Netflix's acclaimed war series on the operation.

On September 10, out for a family dinner at a Gurugram restaurant, Gupta dropped his family off and went looking for parking. What followed, according to his police complaint: staff sent him from valet to basement to multi-level parking — before refusing to let him park at all.

When he tried to reverse his car, he alleges an attendant struck his windshield. Then returned — with an iron rod.

He was hit on the hand. Then the head.

Bleeding, injured — a fractured arm, a head wound — Gupta says no security personnel stepped in. Police, he alleges, took over 30 minutes to arrive.

He was rushed to Medanta Hospital by his family.
