Had a lot of fun recording, producing and mixing this one for joyrobber! I know some people here were fans of their previous track Jeremy Kyle - which I've uses in a few of my most recent videos. No doubt if you liked that one, you'll love this one too! So help support an awesome independent artists and check the song out using the link below!

If you've ever recorded octave leads, you probably know how tricky it can be to get them sounding super clean. You can try just playing tighter, but certain tones can still lead to unwanted fret noise or false harmonics sneaking in.

In this video, I break down the unique trick NOFX developed with producer Ryan Greene to solve this problem entirely - a unique guitar setup that's quite unlike any other. If you want cleaner octave leads without fighting your own playing, this is a clever recording trick that's well worth knowing 👇

Here I thought they were fighting wars to defeat fascism, but turns out it was for (checks notes) Ernie Ball? 🤔

If you've ever written a riff, played it once, and immediately decided it was bad, the problem might not have even been the riff itself. It might just be that you didn't stick with it.

When you hear a bare riff on one guitar, you're comparing it in your head to a finished song with drums, bass and vocals, a comparison it's never going to win.

In this video, I break down 4 simple exercises for developing riffs properly, from writing quick daily sketches, to breaking phrases into repeatable sections, to using the riff itself to imply harmony, or deliberately leaving it open so the chords underneath can completely change how it feels.

If you've been scrapping ideas before giving them a real chance, these exercises will change how you approach every riff you write from here on out.

I've created a short walkthrough for anyone who wants to see how to use MIDI packs to help with your writing and production. Even if you're not using one of my drum packs, it might be useful just to show you the general process, especially if you're new to the world of drum programming.

I also have a free pack available on my website, so if money's a bit tight right now, you can still download that and get started. Hope it helps!

Had the pleasure of working on the writing, production and mix for this latest track by Jack Corriere. It’s a bit of a fun, tongue-in-cheek take on modern country music, complete with my very lacklustre slide guitar skills 😅

If you’re into the sillier side of pop punk, à la Bowling For Soup and the like, I'm sure you'll get something out of it!

Weezer's guitar tones are some of the most iconic in rock, and it's easy to assume that thick, fuzzy sound comes down to a fuzz pedal or some complicated stompbox setup. But a couple of small, overlooked details are doing most of the heavy lifting - and neither of them requires buying any new gear.

In this video, I break down the two key components to their sound and how you can also use them to add serious weight to your own sound. If your rhythm parts have ever sounded a little thin next to your favourite records, this is a quick fix you can try today. Watch this video to learn how 👇

Had a lot of fun working on the recording, production and mix of Realm by AVR! Always fun trying to get drop-tuned riffs to stay in-tune on a guitar that isn't set up for them, haha. Check it out if you like more of a metal tinge to your alt-rock!
